I'm sure everyone here is sick of Weidman/Silva threads between KO conspiracies, "what would've happened had Silva not clowned", rematch predictions and the like, but a serious question since I haven't seen it asked... Did Weidman honestly have the record/credentials to fight Silva? Or is the middleweight division just so shallow that they had to throw someone at him? By shallow, I don't mean lacking in talent, just that Silva already beat damn near everyone. Does a 10(6 in UFC) fight win streak with only 2 top 10 opponents constitute a title shot? It's fairly obvious that he won, and in convincing fashion no doubt, but should he even have been in the situation to fight Silva as an inexperienced rookie with only 9 fights? I personally don't think so. He should've won at the very least 2-3 more fights. I'd also appreciate not getting ripped for asking a question which seems to be a fairly common practice here.
