Did Weidman deserve to fight Silva?

I'm sure everyone here is sick of Weidman/Silva threads between KO conspiracies, "what would've happened had Silva not clowned", rematch predictions and the like, but a serious question since I haven't seen it asked...

Did Weidman honestly have the record/credentials to fight Silva? Or is the middleweight division just so shallow that they had to throw someone at him? By shallow, I don't mean lacking in talent, just that Silva already beat damn near everyone.
Does a 10(6 in UFC) fight win streak with only 2 top 10 opponents constitute a title shot?
It's fairly obvious that he won, and in convincing fashion no doubt, but should he even have been in the situation to fight Silva as an inexperienced rookie with only 9 fights?
I personally don't think so. He should've won at the very least 2-3 more fights.
I'd also appreciate not getting ripped for asking a question which seems to be a fairly common practice here.

How does one arrive at a fighter's credentials?

Rankings don't matter, so what's the formula?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sherdog where people don't answer questions and are just total ***** about everything. Bravo. Splendid, gentlemen.

But how do you determine a fighter's credentials?

    You're asking an awkward question

Like Silva's losses, they come from very obscure fighters. Hematch will give us a good answer of whether Weidman really deserved to be in the cage with Anderson, win or lose, Weidman's life has changed forever. He was the man to dethrone Anderson Silva, fluke or not, he did it.

And to answer your question TC, no, Weidman didn't deserve the match. He was out of commission for a year and only fought Munoz who wasn't even top 5 when he lost, yet somehow Weidman got his title shot.

5-0 in the UFC, with back-to-back top 10 wins. He absolutely deserved it.

    More so than anyone else.

And knocking him out into reality doesn't help your point.

Did Lesnar deserve Couture? I guess he did mate, I guess he did..

If gsp knocked silva out instead sherdog would have exploded and I would have jumped up cheering so high I'd have lost both arms in my ceiling fan and bled to death on my lounge room floor......

There would be a lot of people that would never, ever show themselves on this forum again.

    I'd be happy with that.

Is it really that awkward, man?
Credentials can be defined as a number of things, but in this case, I mean accomplishments.
Fighters gain credentials by accomplishing feats. Feats would include things like finishing well-known fighters in devastating fashion, constantly imposing your will in the Octagon, racking up an impressive record/win streak against difficult opponents.
Weidman knocks out Mark Munoz and BOOM. Title shot.
