I know before the third round he said he wanted to fight, no fighter would say yes that has heart. I know Tim's hand was broken and the eye poke made his vision terrible. I am not questioning his ability to fight at all. It just seemed to me when he flopped to the mat a few times, he was almost conceding to defeat. I know its a rotten thing to think, and I am not trying to fighter bash at all either, I like him as a fighter. I am just trying to see if anyone else feels or thinks the same? Thoughts
I think Tim was in no condition to continue and was looking to survive with the least amount of damage taken.
Ya that's a fair assessment. I agree that his corner should have stopped it though, he said he couldn't see. We need to have more responsible corner people in MMA, stopping a fight doesn't mean he wouldnt want to fight, it just means you are allowing them to hopefully fight another day.
WTF was he supposed to do? Stand in front of a boxer when he couldn't see and was fighting one handed?
I felt the same thing until he KOd the Samurai. TOnight he fought on like a warrior and he can only gain respect.
Then concede the fight already. Don't say "FUCK NO" when they ask if you want to stop then continuously drop to the mat in the fetal position praying that the ref will stop the fight for you. That isn't heart. That's just ego. He wants to be able to say he kept fighting. Not fooling me, sorry.
Did he give up? Yeah, he did. There's no shame in it though. He was done. He couldn't see, he was bleeding like a stuck pig, and he had a broken hand. His corner didn't protect him and he was too proud to quit on the stool. He did the best he could, but finally realized that he needed to turtle up and let the ref stop the fight.
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: I'm not a fan of Boetsch, thought he lost against Lombard (even tho tit wasn't pretty) and I had money on Costa for this fight. However, Boetsch showed a ton of heart and there's nothing shameful in his performance. He could've played the eye poke big time and still got up quickly and fought on. He was low on gas in the tank and was having a hard time dealing with the cut+eyepoke+broken hand also he was feeling Costa's power, and I don't think that's something you wanna get hit by without seeing the punches coming. I think most guys would rather pull guard and know where they have their opponent when they are half blinded, than stand. Everybody can "be broken", maybe except Fabio Maldonado who is probably the first guy that can convince me he actually means he would rather die than give up. Which is kinda stupid but still demands respect.
Give me a fucking break. He broke his hand, was headbutted, was eye poked and couldn't see shit yet he didn't quit until his body couldn't continue to fight. Tim has more heart than you can even imagine. Go hop in the octagon and see how big your heart is, tough guy.
