Did Shields really get cut because he's a boring fighter?

after GSP left shields very well might of been the UFC WW camp if he had been able to stick around... he beat woodley didnt he?

I thought it was a really good win at the time. Had Jason picked to win. That was a damn good fight.
He was seconds away from tapping Shields with an RNC. Which was practically unthinkable lol.

True, they just recently cut Rosholt who was 6-2 in UFC, and they need all the HW's they can get. Just because he was not a striker
Rosholt is the only one that I found truly boring. I love guys with a wrestling pedigree, but Jared treated MMA fights like he was extending his NCAA career. I really felt like he wasn't trying to evolve his MMA skillset.

He was extremely boring.

Sheilds vs Maia was one of the worst main events I could remember.

He's a contender killer that's why. Bad for business lol. But he should be in UFC. You have to beat the tough veterans to move up.

He was brought in to challenge gsp, once that fight happened they really had no use for him

He looked terrible in his last UFC fight. His physique was deflated, looked terrible.

I don't know why he was cut, never understood it, but he's not boring and neither is Maia.

Your thread is boring.

based on that logic there aren't any boring fighters... maybe with the exception of Jared Rosholt of course

I don't get why people think Demian Maia is boring. He has a pretty decent finishing %. Do people not like subs?

I think it's fair to say that Jake Shields was not cut because he was boring. The UFC has kept a lot of "boring" fighters around for a really long time. Shields was cut because he made a lot of money and he had a bad relationship with Dana White.

Him beating more exciting fighters than himself probably was the main reason for the bad relationship with Dana White. Shields was supposed to lose to Woodley and Akyiama and maybe Kampmann.

Exactly. Fitch, Okami, Shields. All grinders who won more than they lost. All 3 fought for UFC titles, cut at the first chance. Shields got absolutely screwed. UFC matched him up with three guys who were hard for him to defeat. A roided Lombard, a powerful wrestler in Woodley, and another grappling specialist Maia in Brazil. Shields still won 2 out of 3 lol. And cut.

Akiyama should have beaten him on paper too, Akiyama is bigger, stronger, hits harder, has better takedowns/TDD and striking, still lost to Shields.

it is bewildering and hilarious how some fans talk from the perspective of the owners of the ufc. like what in the fuck? why are you doing that? you are a fan. view, and assess the sport, based on the point of view of BEING a fucking fan. i mean it is just insane how certain people justify certain match-ups because it makes the ufc more money. do you want to see good fights, or do you want to make billionaires more money?

I agree. It makes me wonder if the UFC needs internet shills at all with such fans of the sport.

Really Shields vs Maia was better than most Shields fights. Do you not like high level grappling in MMA? I mean neither guy got close to a submission but they were both constantly working and didn't stay in the same positions long. Kind of reminded me of some of the old throw back grappler vs grappler matches like Saku vs Newton without the finish.
