To me it seemed that while Rousey did try for a few take downs, she was content to stand with Holly because she truly believed that she could beat her standing up.

Do you guys think Rousey CHOSE to trade with Holly due to overconfidence or she simply never got the opportunity to take Holly down?

I think she was confident with her striking that she wasn't going to focus on takedowns like she has in the past.

She stood with her at the beginning because of her ego, and then later tried to bring the fight to the mat after Holly made some jab-berry sauce. Unfortunately for Honda, it was too little, too late.

She got the opportunity to take Holly down and couldn't capitalize. She never got close afterwards, not because she didn't want to, but because Holly danced circles around her while she stumbled across the cage like a toddler. She went for the clinch just like she does in every other fight.

She was forced to stand with Holm. She tried to take her down and Holly proved to strong for her.

It was a bit of both Ronda planned on striking with her but wasn't having any success she tried clinching with her to get the take down but that failed as well.

Very clearly tried to take her down and lock in the armbar, after that failed it almost looked like Rousey gave up mentally. Also attempted and failed takedowns, and got taken down herself by Holm, manhandled to the ground actually.

Holms footwork was just too much, made Ronda look like a fool.

I think she was thinking going in that she could stand with her. She had done well in the standup in recent false. It was obviously a bad decision. She should have gone in from the start with the idea she needed to avoid damage and get the takedown. She was being too aggressive, and needed to try to counter and get a takedown. She got her down once, but tried for the quick armbar instead of trying to flatted her out and work the ground game. Overconfidence I think.

She wanted to take her down, just couldn't close the distance well enough.

I think Holly never allowed her to do anything.

Did you see the fight?

I ask this because you must have missed the part where she's chasing her for a full round, trying to close distance and get hold of Holly. She actually does once, but Holly gets free.

Of course she was trying to take her down. She just couldn't. Holly was superb on her feet.

Ronda's go-to takedown is the head-and-arm takedown. The problem is that Holly Holm is a very lanky opponent compared to all of Ronda's previous opponent and a head-and-arm is a lot harder to execute on a lanky person.

That and the fact that Holly has a naturally bigger build and is stronger than Ronda. Ronda can't take her down.

She choose to stand and chase Holm around the cage. She was too gassed to follow through on takedowns and submission as a result.

She tried to take Holly down after eating a couple punches. She couldn't....

Holly was to strong to get down/keep down(also to quick to catch). If she could have she would have, definitely. After that first clean shot i'm sure she was thinking about when she could find a sub. It at least went through her mind.
