Chuck was on a great win streak with 4 title defenses and then came the KO loss against Rampage. Since then, he got KO/TKO'd by Evans, Shogun, and Franklin.

Do you think Liddell's chin deteriorated before his 2nd fight vs Rampage?

I think was more of a carreer acumulation damage... just see shogun nowadays.

It was just his time, Too many wars over a long and storied career.

rampage just had liddell's number. rampage didn't end his career. what hurt liddell more then anything was him facing so many grapplers from 2004-2006.

after the rampage fight, liddell was flat against jardine and then had a damn good performance against wandy. liddell's style isn't one that bodes well once you get older and slow down. he was just a hair short from landing his death strike against rashad. shogun just ran through liddell and liddell looked great in the franklin fight until he ran into a KO punch.

it was just age. liddell was a great offensive striker, but wasn't technical at all.

chuck started slowing down and started to get hit squarely. other than the franklin punch he got bombed

the rashad punch, the rampage punch, the shogun punch and hammerfists arnt punches a good chin can help.

Yes and this has been common knowledge for years.

Liddell had never been KO'd before the second Rampage fight but was ultra chinny for the rest of his career.

Maybe Rashad did it.

He fought Wandy very intelligently, was very impressed with that one & am a big Wandy fan

Agreed, Page gets zero credit around here for cracking Chuck's beard.

Every time your KO'd it becomes easier to get KO'd again. Each time a full on concussion takes place permanent damage that will not heal happens to the brain.

Then add in all the non KO hits he took over all of his fights plus gym wars then ad in age. Chuck was staring at 40 when he started losing. Jackson was a bad matchup stylistically and I dont think Chuck had the right style to beat him.

But if a 30-32 yr old Lidell fought Evans, that is a very winnable fight for Chuck.

Yeah, Chuck always kept his hands down, defended takedowns, and relied on his dynamite hands and iron chin. Rampage was a nightmare match-up for him. Ridiculously strong guy who hits just as hard and who you can't knock out.

People also need to remember when Jackson beat Chuck in Pride he must have landed 100 power punches to Chuck's head that was a brutal fight and it really took a toll on Chuck.

Which is why I bet on Jackson in the rematch when Chuck was a big favorite and won big money because for whatever reason Vegas acted like they never fought before.

Everybody always talks about him "taking two to give one" and all that mythological bullshit. What are some examples of this?

Came in here to say exactly this. It wasn't like their PRIDE fight was a close fight. Page took Chucks shots and then literally beat him down. That right hook that landed in their 2nd fight was directly on the chin and Chuck was never the same since.

There's a reason people say a guy has an "iron chin" and it's because he eats shots to test it.

...Eat enough shots and sooner or later uou're gonna start going out

But did he really have a lot of wars?

I wouldn't really ever say Liddell had a ton of wars in his career.

rampage just clipped him and finished him on the ground. Rashad is the one who did all the real damage. Plus the guy has had a long career of getting whallopped
