Did people seriously expect 5'8 wrestler Yoel Romero to charge in to 6'4 counterstriker Izzy?

Shit at winning decisions? Almost every decision loss he's been in was close and controversial at the highest level of mma.

We’re they controversial? Or were bunch of fanboys just butthurt?

He has only has one split decision loss. All the rest were unanimous across the board.

Yoel has poor output and had done nothing to correct it. Poor IQ.

Yoel is just an extremely overrated fighter and people had way too many expectations.

Yoel is 40+ years of age and has lost multiple times. He was not at all as scary or good as people believed.
Lol, did you see rockhold? Weidman?

Weidman is not a great fighter. He got all the attention and praise for KOing clown mode Anderson Silva, but what he has done after that? Nothing. Weidman has lost almost all of his fights since then.

And Rockhold? Rockhold is more known for being a handsome dude with annoying personality who got owned big time by Bisping.

you have no idea

Dude is olympian. Grab him and its over...

Instead he was calling out Usain bolt

Yoel would have been flattened. Its never a good idea to start chasing Izzy look at Whitaker and Costa.

Yoel is not a striker like Gastelum.

Izzy knew this and made the fight boring refusing to engage only looking to counter.

Yoel still won that fight regardless of how boring it was.

So the technique against that was to stand still with his hands up for half the fight letting Izzy just point fight him. Izzy is predominantly a counter striker but yeah, he should have gone against his whole style to entertain Yoel who also showed no interest in fighting.

Romero looks very good for his age and is a very awkward dude, but as a fighter there are guys way more terrifying than him. He is just 13-5, a very journeyman kind of record.

Not really at all, he's 100% not a journeyman, context is key. He was 4-1 when he joint the UFC and spent most of his career, pretty much over half of it fighting the top guys on the planet, he didn't have the chance to be 10-0 before fighing elite competition. Same with Randy, BJ, there records only look bad on paper, anyone who watched them fight in their primes wouldn't pay attention to their records on paper.

No, I didn't expect counter-striker Yoel to lead the dance. And Izzy, unlike Yoel, can adapt. He was caught in the first, adapted, fought long, won clearly.

Yoel is built for aggressive inside striking. He's 5'8, jacked, and the most explosive fighter in the sport's history. But instead he employs the strategy of a 6'4 skinny fighter: sits on the outside, and waits for a counter. Why? Because his neck is so fucked up and injured that he can't move it. So he can't do any head movement or ducking and weaving. Meaning he can't actually move forward aggressively. Despite being jacked on the outside, he's old and injured on the inside, and it effects his fighting.

All his losses have been very competitive regardless of who you think won. Saying he has poor output is just stupid. if it was true, he wouldn't be able to compete at the highest levels of mma at his age. I don't see how u dislike him

Gastelum is not a striker
He is a wrestle boxer, far from a striker
He has a great left though
Yoel did not trust himself to get the job done, he should ve swarmed Izzy

You don’t know what poor output means.

Poor out means he doesn’t attempt enough offense. Yoel regularly lets entire rounds go by without throwing so much as punch. This isn’t an opinion it is a observable fact that he is rarely active. Because of this he keeps letting rounds slip away.

Yes his fight are competitive after Yoel gives away most of the rounds by doing nothing which is why he keeps losing.

The reason Yoel does this is so he can conserve his cardio for later rounds, which often pays off. Also, saying someone has poor output does not mean that, it means they have shitty offense which is not at all the case with yoel.

"DID PEOPLE REALLY EXPECT ALDO TO LAST LONGER THAN 13 SECONDS COS I DIDNT!??!

GOD U PEOPLE ARE STUPID"

anyway to answer your question,we expected Yoel to FIGHT. Thats what he was supposed to be there to do.

Just because you think Yoel won the fight doesn't mean he did.

The judges thought Izzy won and so did a lot of others. Yoel did a couple bumrushes and planted himself in the octagon expecting Izzy to lead.

Izzy didn't look great either but cause Yoel refused to engage, Izzy just kicked his legs and earned enough points to win.

Yoel had his chance and came in with the worst gameplan, lost and then blamed Izzy for Yoel having a shit gameplan lol.

What did izzy do?

Adesanya is a good counter striker, but he's also taken shots in the pocket. Can counter, but boxing defense isn't the best. That's why Gastelum did well against him. And why Pereira KO'd him (of course Pereira is a real striker). Also why Yoel landed good on him, in the rare spots he engaged.

Yoel is a guy who can do a lot of things. He can slam you, can keep it standing because of his wrestling, can explode from the outside with a killshot, can charge in like he did vs Rockhold and get the KO.

Standing stationary is just dumb. Adesanya isn't only a counter guy, he is great at picking his shots from range. World class. Way better than Yoel.

he was charging him, later in the fight be was all but sprinting at izzy. everyone acts like he wasn't the aggressor
