Movies Did people really not see the twist coming in The Crying Game?

This thread inspired me to listen to main song for the movies soundtrack.

Its actually beautiful in a wistful mournful kinda way.

The song has actually fostered a renewed resonance within me now that I know what travails a Lad in Dress must suffer in a world that sees his identity as either a schtick, an ideology, a crude caricature, or really really shitty cosplay (ofc it all depends on how good the Molly is)

...and (imo) it IS all these things... but dispite the apparent (imo) dysfunction of the whole premise, a good song can grow a bit of empathy in place of disdain and indifference.

I saw it in the theater when released. Everyone at that time had kept the reveal a secret. When the reveal happened, someone got up and pulled the fire alarm. I always felt something was off, and couldn't figure out why they cast this "actress" that looked like Pauly Shore to me. Back then, they usually chose a good looking cast. I just knew something was off. I think the narrative was that love is love no matter what. Obviously normal people would have an issue with the cock and balls, but it is a movie after all.

The twist was exposed everywhere. I think I was on the school bus for grade school and heard it spoiled on the radio. Didn't watch the movie until recently.

Yeah people really ruined that twist.

I was probably too young to watch it when it came out, but I would've liked to have seen it spoiler-free when I was a bit older just to get the full effect.

Unfortunately, the Simpsons actually ruined the movie for me. Stupid Mayor quimby. It wasn't even a funny joke.

I think you're right the movie seemed to lack the impact it might of had if I'd watched it without spoilers. I've never seen Top Gun or Titanic but I believe I could tell you 75% or more of the plot. I remember the radio ruining the ending of the sopranos too

Yeah I don't mind people ruining movies like top gun because they're not highly dependent on a plot twist or surprise.

But the crying game, Se7en, the 6th sense, the usual suspects... You have to be a dick to spoil the twist for those movies.

Thank you, I was trying to remember the 6th sense. That was a bad one for people ruining it too
