Did Mike Tyson get dropped by a bodyshot to Holyfield because he was undertrained?

    Tyson-Holyfield 1 specifically.

Very rarely do you see all time greats in the HW division, especially beasts, get dropped by body shots. Not only that, Mike Tyson went down from a middle-of-the-road power puncher in Holyfield (Holyfield himself says Tyson punches harder than him).

Tyson looked a bit on the slim side in the first one IMO, not so in the rematch. Does that have anything to do with it, or is it just connecting the perfect spot at the right time?

I would say Tyson went down from the body shot due mostly to............ Holyfield punching him in the body.

Holyfield was not a particularly hard puncher. He had to take massive amounts steroids to even make the weight.

    Holyfield was juiced.
    Tyson was a coke addict.
Holyfield wouldn’t last 2 rounds vs ‘88 Iron Mike

Concidering the lesser fighers who beat Holyfield several times (Bowe in particular), you might be right.. Not in 2 rounds though. Holyfield had a very sturdy chin.

Tyson was outstanding in his prime, the Version after jail showed him strong, but slower, the last Version was unfortunately of a deteriorated man, drugs and too many personal issues.
Prime vs prime, I have the feeling that Holyfield might be some sort of kryptonite for Tyson, due to his granite chin, with amazing speed and violent counter punches.
But it would definitely have been a very interesting super fight.

Can you explain to me how you arrived at the conclusion that Mike Tyson was a better fighter than Riddick Bowe?

Forget Bowe if you don't like that example. Do you think Michael Moorer and John Ruiz can beat Holyfield but Tyson can't?

Not really about who is harder puncher vs who is weaker that dictates everything more about punching at the right time on the right spot and also fighting cleverly throughout the fight so you can secure the judges

It is if you drop someone with a body shot. That is not a normal way for Mike Tyson to go down. Very rarely will you see him go down from that.

Btw, didn't Douglas drop Tyson with a body shot as well (not the winning knockdown).

Douglas punched VERY hard in that, though. You could hear it all the way to the tube.

It's not? TS asked if it is normal that Holyfield dropped Tyson with a body shot, and I'm saying that imho Tyson was not in his prime when he fought holy and that holy had a style that wasn't a good matchup for Mike.
Can you see the correlation ?

What does his boxing prime and the style match-up have to do with my question about whether he was physically untrained to take body shots in this particular match

I am not asking about getting hit or not, I am asking about being able to take it. It seems weird that Holyfield could floor him with a body shot.

he was dropped because he was off balance... it didn't hurt him... more like a push.

If Tyson was actually hurt to the body enough to drop him, he'd quit right there.
