Watching the fight I was shocked at some of the damage Johnson was doing from his back. Not since Rutten/Randleman have I seen a guy on the bottom dealing more damage from his back than the guy on top.

I still think Schaub should have gotten the nod b/c of Lavar`s horrible TDD but if they would have given it to Lavar for doing more GNP from the bottom than Schaub did from the top, I wouldn`t have been overly upset.

Does anyone know the stats for ground strikes landed for that fight? Lavar had to have significantly outlanded Schaub

I think Lavar literally beat Schaub on the ground when Schaub had him in that choke & Lavar was pounding on him with his 1 free hand. It wouldnt had shocked me if Schaub got KO'd from that.

As far as im concerned, LJ won that fight, Schaub was scared to fight, he just wanted to hug and cuddle.

Schaub controlled position...but he definitely took more damage. Way more.

When Schaub had that horribly bad choke Lavar reigned some heavy punches. I was impressed and you could definitely see the damage when the fight ended. Lavar didnt have a scratch on his face and Schaub was all bloodied up.

Thanks for raising. I totally agree, I think that was a fairly easy fight to actually give to Lavar. The judges have a tough job: they get criticized for not understanding grappling sports, but now we're saying they blew it by not recognizing Shaub was doing nothing on top, and was taking quite a beating for it. But they did blow it - Lavar won that fight.

I believe that Lavar won that fight. You should not be allowed use the old Blanket technique to win fights. I think standing them up for in activity should count as a negative for Schaub. In old school Pride he would have gotten a Yellow Card!

exactly, lucky for schaub that nick diaz wasn't one of the judges because he believes whoevers face is more messed up loses the fight.
but seriously i thought lavar should have won the fight, i knew he wasn't going to win but lavar did more damage on his back to schaub then schaub did you lavar from top control.

Neither fighter took any significant damage. Schaub got hit more, but neither fighter was ever hurt. Schaub was actually the closest to finishing the fight with the choke in rd 1 if anything. I'm sorry, but unless Lavar hurt Schaub from the bottom, you can't give him that fight. If you can't stop somebody from imposing their will on you then you don't deserve to win unless you finish. Start training some effing TDD and grappling in general.

as far as winning from the bottom, I still say Mousasi beat King Mo's ass

This. Mousasi hardly had a mark on him whilst King Mo looked like an alien. The judging really doesn't work well for these fights.

agree TS

i though the did good damage even though he was on the bottom. All shaub did was lay there. the very definition of lay and prey.

larver impressed me actually. he never stopped fighting. though he really needs to work on his escapes and take down defense.

but i don't feel he lost the fight.

I agree with my fellow Fresnan.

Well I agree Johnson`s TDD sucks but who really cares when you`re beating the guy up on top of you? Johnson was way closer to finishing that fight in the first during the choke -- one fighter moved out of a bad position because they were taking damage there and it wasn`t Lavar.

You could tell at the end of the fight that Schaub was somewhat concussed as well as bloodied whereas Johnson was just tired from Schaub laying on him.

I`m not a huge LJ fan or anything so I don`t really care that he lost; I just love to see the guy on the bottom dealing out damage like that. I wouldn`t have been surprised if Schaub got ko`d when he was going for the choke. Sucks that the wrong guy got the W but I`m not gonna lose sleep over it

For w/e reason I haven`t gotten around to watching Mousasi/Mo yet so thanks to all who suggested it :D

You know bro I respect the old school hipster reference but there have been plenty of examples since UFC 20 of guys on the bottom who've done more damage than the guy on top.

Jordan Mein did it to Tyron Woodley a year or so ago and was awarded the fight by one judge despite being completely controlled for 3 rounds. A few weeks ago Hioki was outstriking Guida from the bottom (and on the feet, and had more sub attempts, sigh). Carlos Condit tends to do it to his opponents. Pretty much any guy who is a full-fledged lay & prayer versus an opponent who is very active on the bottom will be outstruck.

For a second I thought that Schaub will get KO'ed there and was waiting for it so impatiently coz I knew the visit on Sherdog would be mind blowing after that. But well... Props for Lavar for pounding from the bottom, though.
