I think he had like one fight left on his contract. But can't hear from him since his defeat to Burns. Searched but no news.

He's 43 now and quite past his prime for some time. I think that the UFC wants to use him as a stepping stone again against a contender and he's not having it.

He mentioned before wanting a veteran fight. Maybe Cerrone when he beats diego ? Would be respectful to both.

Any news on him ?

Was he not linked with Khamzat end of last year a bit? lol... Would have been fucking ballsy fight to retire on, though expect nothing less from the legend... Pretty sure he said he wants a vet in his last fight.

Maia vs Sean Brady would be an amazing grappling matchup

I don't think he's officially retired, but I'm pretty sure he didn't feel any real rush to fight during the covid era. I wish Chiesa never ducked him because that would still be a great fight for him to retire on, but as you said 43 is up there in years, especially at WW.

I'd still like to see it.

I'd still like to see it.

I honestly still think it's a winnable fight for Maia, but chiesa has known for a while that it's a bad style match up for him, so he did the most blatant duck i have ever seen. Maybe he'll feel more confident now that Maia is 43 though and that fight can be made. I'd love to see Maia go out with yet another ranked win under his belt.

I doubt it happens though.

Chiesa is waiting for an opportunity to rematch diego sanchez and Carlos condit

57 year old Demian Maia coming out to Linkin Park still gets the juices flowing

Yeah I think naia handles him pretty easily but if it goes past the 2nd round maia will gas and chiesa could another away a victory.

I think it would be cool to see Maia face someone like Chiesa but I doubt it gets made.

Last time he mentioned that he wants a one final fight against someone like Diego Sanchez or other vet/legend in the sport. But I agree maybe he's not in the rush to get back in there or maybe decides to unofficially retire like Stun Gun Kim

I hope he gets knocked out one last time before he retires.

Yeah Chiesa was duckin Maia even though he was way past his prime, now he's even more past his prime. Maybe now he will take this fight, but I'm sure Demian would destroy him even one year ago. Now who knows.

I listened grappling central podcast and he said he wants to retire with crowd attending

Always been a fan of Demian Maia. Traneing back in the day, he was always a favorite in the gym due to his effective BJJ.
