Curious to know why Conor took so many shots from Mendes? Is Chad really a good stand up guy or was it because of threats of takedown or was this some type of Macho/Alpha statement or...does Conor have flakey defense in terms of stand up?

If he was trying to make a statement by getting hit in the head by the likes of Mendes, then he isn't very bright imo. The threat of the take down often forces guys to keep their hands much lower, but I think Conor has always been hittable.

Chad isn't exactly a terrible striker, tagged Aldo too.

Maybe Chad is a good fighter and Connor is also a good fighter but not a magical god. When two good fighters fight sometimes they punch each other in the face.

this. I think if he gets reckless on the feet or over aggressive that aldo could catch him.

Of coarse pressuring like Conor does, and how good a fighter Mendes is, means Conor's gonna get hit. It's a fight. If you watch closely he rolls with and is moving away with almost all of Chads strikes. On the ground he was eating those elbows though got dayum.

He defence is a bit lacking, he always looks quite hittable which is to be expected from a pressure fighter . Mendes is also very fast and has decent hands which made it look even worse.

Chad tagged him the same way he's tagged everyone he fought

The man dropped Aldo bad. He's lightning fast for a guy with his muscle mass

Conor ate those shots easily though

Mendes is legit and landed some nice clean shots. Landed some nasty shots on Aldo too. Conor is definitely hittable though. But the dudes got an iron chin. Was very impressed.

I understand that but the thing is, when I train seriously for boxing vs recreational training. My timing and reaction time is on a different level.

My point being that Chad lives a fitness lifestyle but no matter how in shape he is, 2 weeks of striking for fight training shouldn't give him the proper speed to catch Conor like that. Which makes me wonder if Conor has bad defense or not.

UFC has you people thinking this guy takes punches on purpose.

The sport has gone to complete shit.

Chad's developed into a solid striker. He tagged both Aldo and McGregor at points.

Lol it would be stupid as hell of conor to get hit on purpose.... mendes is actually a pretty good striker... he just needed confidence in his hands and he sarted knocking guys out.... conor showed a solid chin tho...

Over the course of his UFC career, McGregor relies more on his chin rather than movement. Something a lot of strikers do, just get lazy, especially if they think their opponents are bums. I think Jack Slack or someone wrote a good article on it.

I hope McGregor is aware of it and can adjust back to his old style if he moves to 155. Otherwise he's going to get KTFO'd real quick.

He has mediocre striking defense.

Makes up for it with power, accuracy, and chin.

You watch the fights, right?

Lol the dude didnt drop aldo bad.. he dropped him sure.. but aldo popped back up like he had springs on his ass.... dude wasnt even phased. Came back and dropped mendes twice in that same round...

He dropped lamas bad though.

I know he is a solid striker. The thing is though, 2 weeks is not enough to maximize your reaction time to were it needs to be. So yes, Conor is the better striker but he still got her by a guy who was unable to maximize his speed, timing and sharpness.
