His 1st win against Matt Hughes aside...what is his legacy?

16-12-2

I believe he was at peak form in his defenses against Diego and Kenflo. BJ staying in tip top shape was something that wasn't going to last a year though, never mind forever.

My fav BJ fight was against Jens. Not his best outing for sure.

You must be new.

BJ Penn and Randy Couture's records are usually the litmus test to see if you're a casual.

Still the LW GOAT, nobody has yet to surpass him.

I'm a huge BJ fan but I don't believe in indulging in hypotheticals about who could have done what.

Doesn't matter what you could have done, it's all about what you do. BJ accomplished a ton in the sport, two division champ, p4p great for a long time, but if he was too content in his ways to train as hard as he could, or seek outside help to better himself, that's on him.

His peak performances were damn beautiful, but he was also very inconsistent. With that said, I'm not sure if he ever reached his potential.

Lol no. Cause he was known for having poor training habits and barely any discipline. The guy had weight issues his entire career. Basically before every fight Sherdoggers would make threads about BJ Penn being in shape or not or if he's taking the fight serious. Nobody has confidence in had ability to train seriously.

A loss by decision, in a title fight with Pulver and a draw with Uno though?

Meh...

BJ is 11-3-1 at LW. Sounds pretty good.
He was also the first fighter to simultaneously be the #1 fighter in two separate divisions... Long before Conor ever did it.

Did he reach his true potential? I think the answer is almost universally no on this. He refused to change his training methods with the game and fell a step behind. If he had been with an A level camp with proper nutrition and motivation who knows what he would have been able to accomplish, probably a shit load though.
