Did anyone notice the moment when Nate Diaz flipped the switch and decided to give Conor a fight ?

During round 1, Nate was absolutely getting lit up. Hard left after another, his face started turning into a bloody mess and he was bothered by it. His initial reaction to Conor's shots was to back off, only to be chased again and eat another Conor left.

During one particular exchange, Nate ate a punch, looked Conor straight in the eye and was like "WHAT ?" with his textbook open hands gesture, and then started plunging forward and landing his own shots.

It all culminated in Nate rocking Conor, doing a flurry on him, then subbing him. But there was one particular instance during the fight where I thought the balance of powers shifted. Just wondering if other sherbrahs picked up on it too.

You can't beat the Diaz bros in a stand-up fight at their pace. You can't trade blow for blow with them, you can't rely on power, they simply will not go away. The way to beat them is by mixing together everything (striking, wrestling, and clinching). If you don't mix it all together you're going to eventually lose. And even then if your ground game isn't up to par then you will get submitted. Only other way is to do like Condit or Anderson and make sure you fight at your pace. Don't get caught up in a brawl, don't make it a priority to KO them, fight smart and be extremely technical and don't be afraid to go to decision.

Oh yea. It was clear as day. Rogan said "some good exchanges there" or something right at the start of it

yeah he dropped his hands to say come on, than picked it up a few notches, sucked McGregor straight into a textbook diaz brawl,

3:00 in round one when Nate slapped him I knew it was over. Ninja shit. Ninja Gaiden, American Ninja. Ninja warrior.

Nate did what he said he would do, killed or be killed. He hang in there and was never out of it. I noticed every punch he connected, which are not power shots, just jabs and short punches, and I think to myself, if Nate kept touching Conor like that, it can accumulate damage and momentum and might put Conor in trouble, and it did. Congrat's to Nate, and huge props (and balls) to Conor. Fun fight.

This

Also this win makes his MJ post fight interview that much sweeter when he called out connar.

There's another thread on here with him being interviewed at that desk thing with cruz and edgar and those two weirdos. He talks about how since he didn't have a camp he knew he'd have a slow first round, so he was purposely holding back a bit, waiting till the second to really start pressuring him.

It's common wisdom in boxing- straight technical punches beat loopy overhands in the long-term.

When Nate landed the slap and Conor didn't make him pay for it at all, I knew more slaps were coming and that motherfucker was gonna take back everything he worked for.

Nate mentioned at the presser that he needed a warmup coming in with short camp.

Bloodied up zombie Nate is goat. Up there with Kongo.

"You can't knock out Nick Diaz"- Carlos Condit

It is not all that uncommon for both fighters to posture with little defense and take some shots before fully engaging; in this fight the moment was tangible.

Hindsight is always a great thing, but I felt Conor kept going for the Hollywood finish. He threw a lot of shots that hit air and even as it was clear he was tiring, he threw lazy shots and wheel kicks that missed by a lot. I think it was near the end of the first round and Diaz had his back up against the cage where I thought the finish might come. But as the second round went on he faded.

I don't think Diaz pushed a high pace on Conor or did he weather a storm - I think he backed off after one shot - but Conor's cardio was affected somehow more you'd think by cutting down to 145, rather than being able to eat more. Anyway, it was a bold move that didn't pay off.
