Did anyone notice how well Overeem blocked Arlovski's shots?

People are criticizing his defense, but just look at the first blitz, he blocked pretty much everything and only got hit with light stuff. Even later in the fight, Arlovski looked like he landed hard stuff, but looking closer Overeem had blocked it all.

EDit: What actually blew me away the most was how nervous he looked. He looked a little stiff and shaky. Arlovski was feinting a lot too to try to take advantage of this. But Overeem, despite being really nervous, still kept composure in his technique, which is the sign of a true master.

I noticed it on the replay. Looked great

yeah, it's the same as the fedor fight in a lot of ways. Arlovski looked like he was doing well, but he was just flurrying without landing cleanly

Yeah I was pretty blown away by it too. The opening flurry by AA had people I was with worried, but I was happy as fuck to see he was protecting that glass chin of his. He's always had the ability, but just didn't seem to care to before. He cares now thankfully.

After Arlovski hit him with that front kick he was wide open for it again. I kept waiting for Arlovski to throw it again, but he never did.

Yeah, he covered up real nice from that initial flurry. AA was teeing off left and right up against the fence, but not much actually even landed. Very good defense by Reem.

It's been his move for a while, it's worked most of the time besides against BigFoot from what I recall. But I've noticed he's done that alot lately in fights. It almost looks like he's turtling up against the cage but then he comes out unphased.

Reem looks tentative, but I think that serves him well in fights. His technique seems to be improving and adjusting more for MMA. I think his K1 success misguided his technical and psychological approach a bit in MMA. If he keeps improving like he has, he could really do some great things and finally get that UFC title. He was already a complete fighter as far as striking and grappling, but now he's adding the sometimes overlooked variables like strategy, conditioning, etc..

Only thing that concerned me the most was Reem looked to be gassing a bit and he didn't do that much in the first round.

He has been this way in his last 4 fights, he has really improved his defense which has been a major reason why he is going on this streak now.

Even a guy like JDS with very fast and crisp hands was struggling to hit him

I thought he was going down at that time, but apparently he did a good job avoiding to get caught. Nice work by AO.

Yeah I notice Reems defense gotten a lot better each fight. Roy Nelson fight he covered up well but still back him self to the fence. JDS fight he covered up well and circled out when JDS started bombing on him. This fight even better.

I criticized alot about his defense when he got into the UFC saying those are not 12oz gloves anymore and he'll get knocked out like that. He definitely improved a lot, I bet Jackson/wink worked long and hard on his defense knowing his weakness.

I mentioned it in the event thread, but that was his style in K1. Cover up and land huge bombs or knees. he's not really one of those classic kickboxing strikers who unleash nasty combos and leg kicks
