Did 3 historic MMA careers die last night?

Luke Rockhold: Veteran, former Strikeforce & UFC MW champion. People thought his chin was too weak and maybe he was too slow at MW. The move up to LHW was supposed to be a new spark in his career. He said he doesn't lose to people like Jan Blachowics. He has nowhere to go at MW anymore, and he looked awful against a 37 year old journey-man LHW. I think he's done as far as relevancy.

Holly Holm: While her KO wasn't as devastating as the others in this thread, she was 0-2 in her last 2 BW fights and a lot argued she didn't even deserve a title shot here. She basically got it based on name recognition alone. She hasn't beaten anyone relevant aside from Ronda Rousey. She has literally lost to all the top WMMA fighters. She is 37 now, and there are no other divisions or real relevant paths to a title anymore for her.

Ben Askren: The guy just got KOd in the record fastest time in UFC history. Not only that, but he corpsed up and got mocked while in a Masvidal-induced coma. This was after a very controversial Robbie Lawler finish, followed by A LOT of trash talk, going all the way to London to call out the Till/Masvidal winner, saying Masvidal is the easiest match for him, calling Jorge uneducated, dumb, and a shitty fighter.

This is definitely one of the most humbling losses in UFC history and a tough one for any Ben Askren fan to take. At his age, and his limited MMA ability, I think he has no paths to the title and relevancy anymore. Not to mention Dana White was so happy he came into the ring to congratulate Jorge. Dana White never comes in for non-title fights.

The only reason I didn't have Diego in here is because I don't think anyone really saw him still relevant in any division - especially WW. His career has already been over and he is fighting just to fight.

The other fighters in this thread were on title shot trajectory.

I think Holly can still be a gatekeeper and Askren could still possibly get a few more wins depending on how he shows up next fight (although he will never be champion)

Luke is done though. Definitely needs to hang them up.

I think there's a new gen of MW and LHW that he just can't keep up with. Weidman (his biggest win) has been beaten bloody lately. And everyone knew Bisping was never top calibre

I wouldn't say Ben is irrelevant yet. It's one loss. It'll be interesting to see how he deals with it and who he faces next. That is unless he walks around with his face in a pillow...

The three of them plus Diego need to retire. They can coach, comment etc etc but fighting is no longer safe for them. Diego specifically looks to have some serious mental issues after his antics this week. Luke can't compete anymore at all, I picked him to lose this one.

I think Askren will be back. It was a devastating KO but his only loss ever. Unlucky.

Holly, yeah I think it's time for her to retire. I think she's peaked and will never be champion again.

Rockhold most of all needs to retire. Not only did he get flattened, he also looked slow & lethargic at LHW and appeared to be gassing in the first round. It's like the opposite of what happened in Rose's last fight where she looked like an absolute worldbeater for most of the fight and then got stopped. Rockhold looked slow & bad and then got flattened by a dude that he, on paper, should have beaten soundly.

There have been about 100 UFC champions in 20 years. Historic career for any of those guys is extremely loose use of the term historic.
