Diaz vs Leite (Link to Vid)

What was Diaz mad about? How come he just walked off the mat?

In reference to the earlier thread about using your bread and butter against any and all you roll with- note the most basic of basics half guard sweep that Leite ALWAYS uses being used twice in this vid- once grabbing the foot, one tapping the far knee.

Practice makes perfect.

Did the ref call time or did Nick call it after hitting his head?

is there a part 1 i should watch first? I don't want to start halfway through the match if I don't have too

Great match. Leite's halfguard is just unstoppable. It's like all he has to do is get you in half-guard and he's automatically getting either 2 for a sweep, 4 for your back, or sometimes both.

I've said this a million times, but that man really needs to put out a DVD set. They'd swell like hotcakes if he does it right.

I don't think he was mad - he cut the back of his head on the flying armbar attempt and that's why he walked off the mat.

I dont think thats why he bolted. he was butthurt.

Nick kneed himself in his eye. He gave props to Leite. Everything is cool. That is one amazing half guard. ;-O. Nick said he would have to drill the defense to that about a thousand times to defend it against a guy like Leite.

Nick can't afford to mess up his eyes. He didn't want to get sutured up to finish the last two minutes.

Never a dull moment around here...

diaz bolted just like griffin bolted!leite is in a whole different universe than diaz or most people for that matter...

"Whole different universe"...Let's wait and see other MMA guys doing Abu Dhabi matches. Watching two martial artists show their skill was a real pleasure.

You need a high level of understanding to appreciate that match.

Were you competing yesterday? If so, which weight class?

I was a little disappointed by the lack of action from Nick's part.

Yes he had a couple of sub counters, but only in reaction to offense from Lucas.

I understand why one fights cautious against such a high level grappler, but it would have been more fun to see Diaz try his jiu jitsu against Lucas, not mainly trying to make it a wrestling match.

Not that I would... just saying :-)

Hope the cut is not too bad.

Man that was a super technical match. Its obvious both guys were respectful of each other's skills.

That sweep was awesome. I just re-watched it like 10 times. Still working it out in my head. I mean its obvious what he does, but still... To switch the grip from his leg to ankle then roll to the knee. I dont think i would had figured that out either if i were Nick.

So he had to stop the match due to the cut then huh? That sucks. But i mean, hes a fighter. Im sure its not worth his livelihood over a grappling match.

Kudos to Nick.

Not the most exicting match I have ever seen but I have to agree with Bill that it was very technical. Leites half guard is pretty good, Nick didn't seem to have an answer for that.

Interestingly, the last time I rolled I fought one of our purples who has an excellent deep half guard and I had a tough time fighting it. This reminded me that I need to ask Adam for some counters to the deep half guard tomorrow night.

Aesopian, if you still read here, that might be a good idea for a video, hint, hint. :)
