A lot has been made of Diaz's shadow boxing, enough to change the betting odds. But, he looks the same as he did in his prime.

betting on anyone after such a long layoff is not a safe bet, however betting on Diaz in this bout might be a good opportunity to make some money because he does well against aggressive punchy fighters. His counters and ability to throw shots while moving backward is exactly how he beat up Lawler, Daley and a lot of other dudes that were supposed to merk him. Lawler might have some scary power at 185 though so we'll see.

He’s never been a Sugar Ray Robinson or Maywheather Jr in technical ability, so it’s unfair to expect such from him.

He’s got a very awkward style and a little sloppy, but effective for MMA.

However I do have worries about him coming off such a big layoff.

Older version of himself, but largely I agree. This whole shadowboxing thing is overblown imo. He looked like a slightly older Nick Diaz shadow boxing, that’s all. Ppl saying he looked like shit are misguided.

I don't think Nick makes it out of the second round. He doesn't look like a UFC fighter. A better fight would've been a rematch with BJ.

Completely different. His prime was solid motions with full extension and a snap and pause after ever punch. Recent one is just the motions with no snap, full extension, and no pause at the end. I really hope he's messing around with his recent shadow boxing because it doesn't seem like he's going to have a lot of pop in his punches and he doesn't seem like he has a whole lot of punching cardio/conditioning. The motions seem very labored for him and not smooth at all.

Nah shadow boxing can you show you a lot, it's very important especially with boxing. Boxers spend a ton of time shadow boxing, mma community think it isn't important that's why the difference in high level boxing skill is the way it is when it comes to boxing vs mma.

Correct. Which is why you should always shadowbox with a real opponent.

Oh that’s not what I’m saying. When I said “the shadowboxing thing is overblown” I specifically meant the way people are viewing the video of Nick. I didn’t mean that shadowboxing isn’t important.

This gonna be an ugly, sloppy fight. I dont think either guy is going to particularly look impressive tbh.

Hopefully its a good brawl though

it can but Nick always half asses it, so in his case it shows nothing. If he were actually shadow boxing it could show a lot but he always just looks bored and puts no effort into it.

Oh ok. But the shadow boxing does concern me. If Nick isn't messing around, it doesn't seem like it's going to go well for him. Doesn't seem like he's going to have any speed or power in his strikes, his timing and precision is off and he doesn't seem to have solid punching cardio/conditioning. That's why I say I hope he's slow playing and messing around, because if he isn't this may end up bad.

This isn't the only shadowboxing he's showed recently. He had a black and white video posted on his social recently too and it's the same. We'll see tomorrow though if he was messing around or if that's really the level he's at right now with his striking.
