come on UFC, give him some legacy fights for $$$$$, dont try and get him to fight shitty contender matches. Diaz has earned his stripes for sure man

How has Diaz earned his stripes? He has a losing record in the UFC, he''s been a horrible employee outside the cage, he's been nothing but Debbie Downer in his post-fight "retirements", and quite frankly he NEEDS some convincing wins against lower-level compeititon to make anyone who's not a fan because Nick Diaz is a pot smoker that bucks the system interested in him again.

I used to have disdain for the Diaz brothers, I actually like them quite a bit now.

Nick has a ton of fight left in him, not sure about mileage thought... I just wish he finds the motivation to change gyms and make a run after GSP goes away

I agree.

I don't think Dana cares one way or another if Nick ever fights again.

With all due respect, Nick should spend more time training (wrestling, not triathlons), and less time talking. I understand that he doesn't want to fight up-and-comers, but he's not in a position to hand-pick his opponents.

Well, you're not looking at the whole pie Jenny. Diaz earned his stripes before returning to the ufc. Title shot or not, they could have bought him in just to do marquee fights then. He's young but he's been around and entertained for years

Who wouldn't want to take big name fights? All Diaz does is bitch and moan after every loss and make excuses while announcing his retirement. If he wants a big name fight Bisping already said that he would welcome him to MW and he would get a beating worse than what the WWs did.

I agree, lets see him in the fun fights that will most likely deliver if they're put on rather than him getting wrestled for 5 rounds.

A fight with Bisping would be pretty good.

Imaging what would happen if every high ranked guy who lost a fight refused to take a step back.We wouldn't have any fights other than title fights really.

Stay retired Nick.

coz he is a warrior and people will drop what they are doing to watch when he fights

Diaz/Bisping would be great. The smack-talking would be without precedent, and the fight will be exciting (since Bisping is no wrestler).
For the result, well no way Bisping is Ko'ing Nick, and Michael's stand-up game might be enough to avoid getting KO'd, but that's all he has to offer to Diaz...
Nick by decision I think, after 3 exciting rounds.
Make it happen Joe! ><

his accomplishments prior to his last ufc run are irrelevant to the current mma landscape within zuffa - "big fight" fighters will be too busy fighting other "big fight" fighters (ie contenders and rising contenders) to waste a camp on a novelty match with diaz

regardless, spending a few years in sf beating up 1 dimensional, mid-tier strikers with poor cardio doesn't exactly qualify as "earning your stripes" and certainly doesn't put diaz in the "pick your opponent" category ...unless you want to go back even further as proof of "earning you stripes" - in that case anyone who's had a decent win in the past 10 years deserves to sit back and only fight "big fights"

What's with all the hate? The guy admits he's happily retired, and would only come back for a big name fight.

If there are no big name fights, he's not coming back.

So what's the issue?

He's been in the sport longer than guys like GSP. And he was making like 20,000bucks in strikeforce, but slowly and surely fought his way up the payscale by dominating opponents one after the other.

This lead him to earn more money than he's made in his life by fighting GSP.
And now he doesn't want to go through all that anymore.

So he's retired. You won't have to see him fight again because it's unlikely Dana will throw him in a big fight.

So you should be happy that one of the more entertaining fighters inside the cage has retired.

diaz is too slow and his footwork is awful - why you think diaz could land the 10 zillion pitter patter punches he'd need to wear down bisping i don't know - bisping would clown diaz standing - and he hasn't been a stirctly stand up fighter for years - his wrestling is actually pretty good nowadays and certainly good enough to put diaz on his back especially considering the significant size and strength advantage bisping would bring to the table

People talking about earning stripes sound very naive.
The UFC is in the selling fights business, if they can put together a fight that sells and makes sense to them as a business then it will happen, irrespective of how many of you cry about it on a message board.
Nick can sell a fight if needs be, and if he wants a big fight, it's likely the UFC will give him one.

Once again the argument is made for fun fights vs. title track fights. Some fans want to watch fun fights between top guys, and some prefer everyone patiently stand in single file in their own weight class the whole time and try to pursue the title shot.

I don't care if a bout has title implications. I want to see interesting match ups.

Matt Hughes vs Nick Diaz could have been interesting. Diaz rematching Robbie Lawler too. Diaz vs Mayhem. Nick Diaz vs Rory MacDonald. Diaz vs Anderson Silva. Diaz vs Takanori Gomi 2.

He's 7-6 in the UFC. So unless they do math different where you're from that equals a winning record.
