I said this before the fight, but that was just incredibly unfair fight and she does not deserve any credit whatsoever. It is similar to having a 100 m dash competition between a man and a midget.
She came in at 6.5 percent higher than the weigh class that she was competing under. If It was a lightweight, since it's more of average sized male to put it in perspective, it is equivalent of coming in at 165 pounds instead of 155 pounds.
Not only that, she doesn't seem to have tried to cut any weight whatsoever, no sign of being drained at all, since her whole body looked as drained as Kim Kardashinan's ass, so not only she had an unfair weight advantage, but her opponent was the one who had to drain herself to make weight, so it was a double whammy.
All the more, it was a lower weight class of 115 pounds. I mean, what are the likelihood of someone knocking out their opponents compared to more regular weight classes? Not only was it 115 pounds but, this was WMMA after all, the level of striking skills would put a fear of god into a striking fans from sheer ugliness of it.
To make it worse, this was BJJ specialist. You can talk all the shit you want on WMMA, but if you are good at something, like Holmes with kickboxing/boxing, and Rousey with Judo, then you are good at something. You can talk all the shit on Rousey, but when Ronda's Judo WAS excellent.
And she IS very good at BJJ, like just as world class at it as those two are. So, you put a world class BJJ specialist, in a weight class of 115 pounds, let alone WMMA, against an opponent who had to cut to make weight herself, which obviously takes toll on you, and it didn't look like Dern even tried to at all, it wasn't really nothing short of a miracle for her to lose this fight.
If this wasn't fucked up, I don't know what is, especially because it's really hard to turn down a fight, and especially if you are not a big name fighter, after spending all that money to train and etc.
If anyone was set up to lose, it was Dern's opponent, in my humble opinion.
I think, her next opponent should make her intent clear in not fighting her if she misses weight like Whitaker did.
