How do you guys see this going? Maia has been on a tear lately and has dominated everybody on the ground since the Shields fight. Brown has 13 losses on his record, 9 of which are submission losses. While he's not the same fighter who lost via guillotine to Seth Baczynski in 2011, tangling with Maia will almost certainly result in another submission L to his record.

Can Brown pull off the upset? If Maia wins, does he get the next title shot or will that go to the winner of the Rory-Wonderboy bout?

Brown has a Elbow/knee chance and that's about it. I'm thinking that maia submits him in 2.

Brown is a tough mother fucker and can trade with the best of em, but i see maias grappling being too much as usual. Both fun fighters.

Rory Wonderboy gets the next shot.

Maia beats brown then has a title eliminator.

Brown is tough but I see Maia wrapping him up and subbing him in the 3rd.

IMO, if Rory and Maia win their respective fights, Maia should get the title shot because although Demian lost to Rory, Maia vs. Lawler would be an interesting match up.

If Wonderboy wins, he should face Lawler next while Maia could face Woodley.

Brown if it stays on the feet and Maia if it hangs out on the floor.

This matchup is an absolute joke. I have respect for Matt and his abilities but not against someone like Maia. I am also sick of the UFC's handling of Dong hyun Kim. Feeding him under whelming opponent after underwhelming opponent. Dong would also grapplerape Brown just like he did the first time.

I just realised that UFC 198 has Werdum, Jacare and Maia on the card! A BJJ enthusiast's wet dream! Adding Anderson and Shogun to the card has made it easily the best ever Brazilian event on paper?

Fabrício Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic
Ronaldo Souza vs. Vitor Belfort
Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall
Maurício Rua vs. Corey Anderson
Demian Maia vs. Matt Brown
Patrick Cummins vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira
Warlley Alves vs. Bryan Barberena
Francisco Trinaldo vs. Yancy Medeiros
Thiago Santos vs. Nate Marquardt
Sérgio Moraes vs. Kamaru Usman
Renato Moicano vs. Zubaira Tukhugov

The only way Matt can win is to KO him
I can't imagine Matt defending Maia's takedowns and surviving on the ground

Brown is tough for any toe to toe fighter, but not for a grappler, so Maia for sure.

If I were Matt I wouldn't have taken the fight. This will be his 3 Rd fight getting hopelessly outgrappled. Maia is big and strong and has decent striking as well believe it or not. Clinching with Maia would also be an instant death sentence. BTW, why the hell is Matt Brown ranked above Magny and Dong hyun Kim in Sherdog's rankings. We aren't lying to ourselves are we gents?

You seem to have a weird fascination with Stun Gun. Burkman was a decent win, but he also got starched by Woodley before that. Matt Brown had an entertaining fight against Lawler after which he got wrestlefucked by Hendricks. His win over the always game Tim Means was pretty impressive too. I don't see a problem with him being ranked over DHK.

Btw, Magny is above Brown in the latest UFC rankings.

As long as Maia doesn't get clipped coming in, he's taking down Brown and grapple fucking him, or subbing him...I think he'll sub him though. Maia's gonna want that sub in Brazil.

Rory Wonderboy gets the next shot.

Wonderboy victory he will surely get the shot, not sure about Rory though. He's lost to Lawler twice already (though I'd actually pick him to beat RL in a third match).

I think Matt has chance, c mon now , I know he isn't Rory ,but his pressure muay thai fighting style can put Maia in trouble.

Brown can't defend a Maias Takedown.... and he have no Chance on the ground....
so he have almost no chance to win.

Brown is a badass, but Maia is no good for him.

Stun gun has a win over Brown, but he also hasn't been given the competition he deserves since the Woodley fight. Any opponent outside the top 11 or 12 is as good as fighting noone at all. Any intelligent analysis of Brown vs Dong and their overall abilities would place Dong as the superior fighter.

The UFC had set up DHK vs. Masvidal for the South Korean event and that was a very good fight for both of them. It's nobody's fault that Thiago Alves got injured and Masvidal had to replace him in the main event against Bendo. DHK was given a last minute replacement and got the job done in convincing fashion. Before that, he faced Josh Burkman and submitted him. I feel you're really reading too much into this.
