Demian Maia #6 Vs Matt Brown #5 needs to happen.

Really...so Kelvin will give WW another try then? If true...

Kelvin has been campaigning the UFC to give him another shot at 170. I'm more surprised Dana is allowing him this soon. Perhaps he was able to do a test cut.

That is as insane match-up if true. I'd be full viagra for that fight.

Well based on this and your other post I can tell you haven't watch much MMA in the last 5 years. I am a big fan of Mia but he totally is a gatekeeper at this point in his career and until he has a good top 5 win that is what people will keep calling him. He "can" beat Brown but everything we've seen from both fighters in the last couple years suggests Brown KO's him in under two rounds is the safe bet. Them's the facts buddy.

How is being ranked 6th in the WW Division gatekeeper status???
I dont really think you understand the definition of Gatekeeper.
Since going to WW Maia is 6-2 and his SD loss to Shields was close and could have gone either way. He had a decent fight with Rory and gassed a bit.
People like Rick Story, Jake Ellenberger, and Thiago Alves are Gatekeepers.
And my opinion is Maia beats Brown, i don't really care what you think a "safe bet" is.
And yes i don't watch MMA i just pretend i know whats going on.

Did you see him vs Rory? He can't hang with the elites but he'll beat everyone else.

Wouldn't really say he can't hang with the elite. He definitely doesn't deserve a title shot at the moment, a fight with Brown would have made sense, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's a gatekeeper just yet. Even the fight you mention with Rory, he dominated Rory in the first round but ended up gassing which turned out to be a really bad thing for him considering Rory's adjustments in the second.

It was a clear loss but the first round showed that he can certainly hang with the elite, if Rory is to be considered elite (which I would say so). Would he beat any of the top guys? Maybe, he'd rightfully be an underdog due to his striking disadvantage against the top guys but it hits the mat and he outgrapples any of them. He was able to get Rory down in that fight too so it's not unthinkable that he could get a takedown.

I think he'd be competitive against most of the top 5, Hendricks and Robbie would be the hardest fights for him for obvious reasons. But Condit, Woodley, Brown? He could be competitive against them and he was competitive against Rory in their first fight. He needs to work on his cardio but he's far from gatekeeper status at this point.

1) Hit Brown in the liver once.
2) Take him down.
3) Sub him.

The end.

Nelson please.

either Brown stops the takedowns and brutalizes him on the feet or Maia gets the takedown and gets a sub

its basically one of those old style vs style matches

Bad matchup for Matt Brown. I think he gets subbed inside of two rounds and possibly inside of one.

Since Brown/Kelvin is happening do Maia/Nelson.

Easy 1st or 2nd round Sub for Maia

Demian Maia is the definition of gatekeeper at WW right now.

lol man you got the wrong fighter as the gatekeeper.

brown has zero top20 wins, well maybe 1 depending on which rankings you go by.

zero top10 wins, zero top5 wins.

lost every fight he stepped up.

isn't that the definition of gatekeeper?

yes Means was, that is 1. Silva and Pyle were not.

Very easy win for Maia. Look at Brown's TDD against Hendricks. Brown is such a tremendously overrated fighter, and it is all based on the fact that he 'moves forward' and is 'violent'. In actually he doesn't have the skill or diversity to beat any truly elite fighter.

What has Brown shown that makes you think he'd be a safe bet to beat Maia? Losing to every top fighter he's faced? Brown's best wins are Silva, Mein and Means. And a very green Wonderboy, who wasn't ranked and who'd beat him in a rematch.

Not long before his winning streak over mostly mid-level fighters he was getting tapped out by Foster and Baczinsky.

Maia has the better wins with guys like Fitch, Kim, Story and Magny.
