UFC flyweight champion Demterious Johnson doesn't think the ABC's new proposed 'knees to grounded opponent' rule goes far enough, and wants more Pride-style rules in today's game.

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has gradually become more and more outspoken the longer his title reign has lasted. Now that the top P4P fighter has held his belt for almost four years, you're usually going to get a pretty frank answer when you ask Mighty Mouse a question. And at a Q&A ahead of a recent UFC event in Salt Lake City, Johnson was very blunt about the ABC's proposed change to a rule about knees to a grounded opponent in the Unified Rules of MMA.

imagine how many kicks he could land on the head of a downed opponent before the fight is stopped.

Mighty Mouse would be fighting Butterbean in some freakshow matchup under Pride Rules. Pride didn't have a manlet division

A guy on his back not being able to perform an upkick against a guy sitting in his guard has got to be one of the most asinine rules in all of mma. That's one that they need to change immediately.

  9. So would DJ's first fight with Ian McCall be a loss under pride judging?

Those rules hurt shogun, overeem, fedor.. From the ring to the cage... The point of MMA is to mimick a real fight.. Not limit...The long first round... Not using the fence as a crutch....And gives less skilled but more athletic people an advantage.... Instead of having to control the center of the ring like you do in boxing....More people get cut / injured with elbows than kicks to the head...That just looked too graphic.. In a time when the UFC was desperate to get television coverage and public acceptance... At this point of their success.. The rules could be negotiated.. With the addition of females.. Probably won't ever happen.. Putting people in a cage makes them look more primitive than in a ring.....The ring has a more inviting feel.

Yeah, you hear promoters like Dana always talking about exciting fights. Pride rules make it harder to stall, IMO.

Has no fans so he's trying to win over the pride fanatics.

Soccer kicks to the head should stay banned. They are pathetic and very dangerous.

Chute Box might have a few potential stars on the reserve if Pride rules were born from the ashes. Those guys had fucking face stomp kata as standard.

Pride rules + elbows (including 12-6) in a cage is ideal.
