you do realize everyone has to start somewhere right? Not everyone has a gracie barra right down the road from them. I started training under a karate teacher who got his blue from royce and he taught me solid fundamentals until I was able to get to a real school.

I was surfing the web for bjj and came about this guy. Now Charles the black belt is legit, but if you read what his is offering TMA instructors around the country.... It seemed a bit shadey to me. Take the time to read it and tell me what you think. It looks like a cash in and spread crappy BJJ throughout the country. Now every TKD Sensai that goes to a three day seminar can get a blue belt and offer Gracie Jiu Jitsu at the local dojo
Kid-JItsu&reg: Building the New Generation

It actually takes them about two years to get a blue belt and another 2 1/2 years beyond that to get purple belt...and that's assuming they "pass" every time they visit with Charles and Larry...which is quite often.

And not every TKD can do it...in fact many don't qualify for lack of effort and skill. Charles keeps a very tight reign on these guys.

Thanks for the news I am glad to hear. I will edit

No problem.

BJJ is very new to Lincoln. When this school first opened, I was very skeptical. I start though because I was tired of waiting to get back to it and everything I saw about Charles was good.

After being there for a few months a few things became evident.

1. The guys have a real passion for BJJ. It's not just something they do a little. They pretty much split the school, with some instructors remaining TKD guys/gals and the guys I work with pretty much abandoning TKD for BJJ. They do it constantly, with the class and amongst themselves.

2. The encouraged us to compete and didn't try to hide us from the world. We've competed and have found ourselves in line with our local contemporaries training under more seasoned instructors. We're not ruling the mats, but we're not getting embarrassed either.

3. They have to go to Florida (or where ever Charles or Larry is) often. I mean a lot. I was shocked at the financial and time commitment they had to have to be permitted to continue instructing. They also have to maintain constant contact with Charles via internet video instruction and email coordination.

4. Charles and Larry fail people. They have not just let people continue regardless of their level of commitment. Charles is adamant that he's not going to be connected with anything questionable...to the point that people that train under his affiliates are not eligible for their blue belt for at least 1 1/2 years...and even then, he has to approve it personally (at least until my instructors make purple).

5. There is no automatic promotion scale. They have "tests" for ceremonial purposes, but people can and have "failed" or not been recommended to take part.
