Gastelum has been very impressive of late, but I think it's a little too early to assume he matches up well with Romero.

But who knows for sure? I didn't think Bisping had a chance against Rockhold, either, and look how that turned out?

I just think in terms of styles Its a very interesting matchup. Romero is the most explosively explosive fighter at MW but his striking is wild as hell. Gastelum is quick and has precise striking. (he can can get wild as well) Who knows wtf would happen with the grappling/wrestling. Romero has every advantage on paper but KG is a beast with his grappling as well.

Except Gastelum has much better wresteling than Lyoto.

Lyoto's defensive wrestling is superb. The surprising problem for Lyoto in his match with Romero is that he got outstruck before he got taken down.

I actually could see Kelvin winning this

Truth. And I still dont think gastelum matches up well with Jacare, Weidman, or Rockhold and would have a tough test against Bisping.... Not like Romero isnt a tough fight for him I just think the matchup is intriguing style wise

I understand why you made this thread. The matchup, when one thinks about it, is potentially compelling. I just think it's a little early for Gastelum's run at middle weight right now to start talking about him taking on the cream of the 185-pound crop.

Kelvin is really good and only getting better.

But Yoel is bigger and a difficult style match up.

I could see Kelvin having sucess with better boxing but struggling with Yoel's explosiveness and strengthand of course his size.

If Kelvin has a perfect night I can see him dismantling Yoel but Yoel would and should be the favorite at this point.

To answer the thread starter's question, I'm picking Romero over Gastelum. But it's a sign of how impressive Gastelum has been at 185 that the question should no longer be considered silly.

Gastelum may end up becoming the 185-pound equivalent of Anthony Johnson, who is far more impressive at 205 than he ever was at 170.

Man I would think Kelvin would find succss, which many have against Romero, but Romero finds a way to literally break his opponents. Whether its there face, jaw, or soul.

I pick Gastelum against anybody. Except maybe Mousse.

I like this thread, because it's the perfect problem that is Kelvin Gastelum.

I'm not really sure why he's good.... I don't think there's anything that he does that just stands out to me. He's just good. He's this calm, kind of chubby little tank. & he makes fighting look easy. War Kelvin

Gastelum vs Romero could happen and would actually be really interesting now that I'm thinking about it.

I think a lot of it has to do with his improving footwork
