I'll be in Charleston, SC this summer and I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent gyms in this area. I'm looking for some place that has good prices (ie. low), a hardcore attitude (or at least not girly), preferably suitable for PL and OL style training; I only need the essentials for squats, cleans, presses, etc. I will only be in the area for 3 months at the most so I'm looking for some place without contract requirements.

I'm staying in IOP, but none of those country club fitness center deals.

    Thanks!

    Chia,

I live in Goose Creek, SC which is in the lowcountry and I used to work in Mt. Pleasant not far from the IOP connector. Mt. Pleasant/IOP/Sullivans is about as metro as you can get so you wont find much other than the standard health and fitness club weight room, which you can get a workout in--try Mt. Pleasant Fitness and Aerobics-it at least has the equipment other than a lifting platform. Most of the gyms that you would like are much to far from where you will be staying-like 50-60 miles and there is always my garage, but I am not very close. We had a great blue collar gym here in Goose Creek at the country club ( redneck country club) but it burned down about two months ago.

Be sure to look me up--we can grab some coffee or lunch when you have time.

Wow, thanks for the info Keith! I was kind of afraid that it would be mainly health clubs and health centers based on the demographic of the area. Great for tennis, golf, sailing, etc, not so much for strength sports or MMA. I'll check out Mt. Pleasant Fitness, though. Also I would love to train with you at least a once. If I can find some time I'll see if I can make the drive.

    Thanks again.

Yes, much valuable old school knowledge could be acquired.

Chia, let Kieth do the talking when you're on your playdate.
