Iirc last NYE a small minority of us were talking about how the event was underwhelming on paper, only to receive some backlash from others for “hating,” or being stuck in the past. “Rizin doesn’t cater to westerners,” was a common sentiment. Meanwhile, not many people here were watching, nor were they watching elsewhere outside of Japan. I’m not saying this to be a jerk, because people live in other timezones and have different schedules, but unless you sit through Rizin events from start to finish, including intermissions, vamping and fluff, you don’t realize how bad NYE and numbered events have been. If someone tells me SuperRizin was okay, I know they weren’t watching live, because the event was bad. The Rizin after was bad, too.

NYE needs some anchor fights this year. Now that foreigners can get in, I hope that some fun matchups can be made. But even if they aren’t, they need to improve their domestic product.
