International "Death knell" for Hong Kong . China set to pass law that strips Hong Kong of liberties and freedoms

Big protest going on today. Been checking out Reddit for pictures and videos.

The citizens, and government, of HongKong aren't going to fold easily. They managed to successfully push back on a similar law last year by pure force of will.

Mentioned this about 2 days ago, but thread was forgotten.

The US Senate passed the Holding Foreign Companies accountable Act.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate passed -- unanimously -- a bill that aims to ban IPOs by Chinese companies on U.S. stock markets, and that could even force Chinese companies already listed on the Nasdaq and NYSE to delist their shares and exit the U.S. The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act (HFCA), if it is next passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and signed into law by President Trump, will have two main requirements: First, foreign-owned companies (sponsors made it clear that the bill is aimed at Chinese companies, but the language captures stocks from any foreign issuer) must be able to prove that they are neither owned nor controlled by a foreign government.

Chinese Companies Could Be Delisted From U.S. Stock Exchanges: What It Means for Investors

The U.S. Senate approved the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act (HFCAA) on Wednesday, sweeping legislation that could result in non-U.S. companies that fail to meet a number of strict criteria being barred from trading on U.S. stock exchanges. The bill was approved without objection.

"The Chinese Communist Party cheats, and the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act would stop them from cheating on U.S. stock exchanges," Kennedy wrote in a post on Twitter. "We can't let foreign threats to Americans' retirement funds take root in our exchanges."

If I’m not mistaken isn’t something like this already in effect?

For instance if I buy Alibaba stock, I’m not actually buying their stock. I’m buying a holding firms in the Cayman Islands stock that represents Alibaba because the CCP will not actually allow foreign investors into a Chinese company

Let me be on record now: When HongKongers begin bombing facilities, I'm still going to be on their side. And I don't wanna hear about how they're "doing more harm than good".

The enemy likes to label fighting for freedom as terrorism.

You really think the US is even remotely comparable to China? We can say whatever we want against Trump and the US government, and won't be imprisoned for it; try doing that in China.

Unless you're non-white, socialist, anti-war during a draft, or a labor leader.(doesn't even matter if you were able to get 6% of the vote as a presidential candidate)

The CCP has lied it's way into being. They can't abide by a single treaty
????? Lied themselves into being almost 100 years ago? Survived and overcame an extermination attempt by the kuomintang?

Unequal treaties related to the century of humiliation are not the same as ones from positions of strength that the US could never meet. Lied its way across all kinds of Native territory. https://qz.com/1273510/all-the-international-agreements-the-us-has-broken-before-the-iran-deal/

The United States of America is becoming Nazi Germany without the sense of fun and sexy uniforms:(

Trudeau says Canada concerned about China’s proposed new law for Hong Kong
https://globalnews.ca/news/6973782/trudeau-canada-hong-kong/

Says the actor that OIC'd (with a minority government) the largest gun grab in history. He praised the Chinese regime for its dictatorship because it allows them to do whatever they want. Canada has been infiltrated by the Chinese communist regime at all levels and is now susceptible to hostile take over of its natural resources.

I'd like to see the US annex parts (or all) of Canada rather than see it fall into the hands of the communist party of China. If not maybe help start a civil war? I know China wouldn't want there to be a Canadian civil war.

The sheer amount of delusion it must take to post this. Wow.

They didn't. It was the calm before the storm. The unrest of last year convinced Beijing that tougher measures were needed before situation slips further out of control. They didn't bring national security legislation out of the blue. They were preparing for this for months. Why do you think they're still putting it out knowing many in Hong Kong will return to the streets? The logical answer is they don't give a fuck any further.

China did the same thing last time and caved, or tactically retreated if you will. Might have been temporary, but I did not expect China to back down then. It'll be doubtful HongKong can do it again, but my point was simply that they will try.

Hope they succeed.

The sheer amount of far leftism or denial it must take to disagree with my post. Wow.

Everything I said in the first paragraph is true and acutually happening. I have already provided proof.

Tell me why you want to see Canada's resources handed over to China? Why would the US want a Chinese controlled country right above them?

You act as if we're just going to hand in all our anti tank rifles, 50 cals, big game hunting rifles, shotguns (now on the list) AR-15s and all the other "assault style rifles" (semi auto) after amenesty ends in two years. You act as if we're going to accept having tracking devices on us at all times.

The million, sorry, multi-trillion dollar question is...

Are the Western 1%'ers going to de-couple their supply chains from China and accept being less wealthy when they pay their fellow citizens more to do the work.

Are ordinary Joes going to be comfortable with being poorer because consumer goods cost more now.

Western money is the steroid that the CCP is pumped on.

Completely fucked that Americans are more outraged over a proposed law thousands of miles away yet there is virtually the same laws here in America as we speak

beating the war drums over chinese territory. people should load hong kong into google maps and see just where it is. i think alot of people are kind of in the dark about hong kongs exact location.

hong kong is seperated from shenzen by a river.

I would hazard a guess that all the regular posters know where it is; Warroom regulars are relatively knowledgeable of geography and international politics.

Consumer goods don't need to cost more; the production can be moved to other developing nations. Before the pandemics, companies were already moving some production out of China because Chinese labor costs were rising; even some Chinese companies were moving out of China and to places like Vietnam.

yeh they might have an idea of where it is but not its exact location. its basically apart of china, they are chinese.

nothing seperates hong kong from china theres not a large body of water, desert, mountain range, ethnicity or language. sorry, theres a river that runs between shenzen and hong kong.

they are just a remnant of colonialism.

this is not our fight.

Well it depends on what you mean by "fight".
We can sanction top Chinese officials , we can rescing favorable trade agreements with Hong Kong, we can sanction major Chinese firms like Huawei , decrease the number of visas granted to Chinese students etc...

yes i agree we can do all of the above mentioned.

I have a bad feeling, US economy is leveraged beyond repair, China has the control of manufacturing and can't sustain itself with their agriculture, they depend on soy from US and Brasil.

They are pressuring countries in the China Sea and now they are breaking an agreement with UK.

We are probably headed for some huge conflict and I pray that China does not come on top.
