Religion provided an answer to all things that could not be understood but is this not the purpose it still serves today? Morality and repentance are not the "purpose", but merely an explanation. The purpose religion serves and will continue to serve is to provide "answers" to the unknown. In the past it may have been used to explain the lack of rain to yield crops and attract animals, in the present it could be used to explained why there is war or disease or why that piano fell on uncle Bob's head. The utility it serves is the exact same. People want to know things and religion is a form of magic beans and crystal ball.

Nah. Jesus gives people something to live FOR, not on. As he said when rejecting Satan's temptation: "Men cannot live on bread alone." Science and things create bread. Something to live on, but not for. This topic was covered brilliantly by Dostoevsky in the Grand Inquisitor scene in The Brothers Karamazov. The Grand Inquisitor bitched Jesus out. Men want bread, and if you don't give it to them, they will find a God who can.

Religion existed in pre-civilizations in some form long before the Inquisition and "Jesus" is not a universal figure head of religion but specific to Christianity. Human-like life, human life and religion predates the 1400's and BREAD. Ancient religion probably centered around food and survival more than purposeful living because food WAS the purpose of living.

haha one of the smartest guys I've ever met in my entire life, a multi millionaire day trader who lives in the Trump Towers, used to lecture me on how the "Force" is basically Hinduism sprinkled with Buddhism.

such a smart dude but could NOT get chicks to ever dig him even with all of his wealth. I think you can guess why.

...Chicks in New York don't dig benevolent Buddhists and Hindus?

You need to think abstractly. Eating is a natural instinct, and our bodies are meant to do it. That isn't the problem. But what the fuck am I doing this for? Why did my loved one die? Other animals don't linger on those questions. Humans actually need purpose outside necessity of just survival. They create a universe that gives them purpose. Where they fit in. Ok, everything makes sense now. Back to work.

I see religion like rat poison. It's 99% good. It's the 1% that kills. In many religions it's an all or nothing proposition.

I think the broad-brushing can take a back-seat for a bit. It's pretty unanimous amongst most prominent honest atheists that one religion is in a rat poison rank of its own.

Did I not cover this in the post you responded "nah" to? I think I did.

"Who has the right to say that France in 30 or 40 years will not be a Muslim country? Who has the right in this country to deprive us of it?" - Marwan Muhammad

Any attempt to deny Muslims of it will no doubt be met with cries of 'Islamophobia' and 'racism'. No doubt calls himself a 'moderate' too.

If you cannot see what is going on, you are blind & lost. Funnily enough, those who always are unable to see what is going on are those who believe in gay rights & feminism. Well, once France becomes a Muslim-majority country, say goodbye to your beloved gay rights & feminism. The whole situation isn't funny, but I have to laugh at that. lol

did anyone see that video floating around that showed the gunman shooing the cop laying on the ground without the cop being blurred? someone posted it on facebook suggesting a CT, because it looks like a bullet completely missed, and the guys head certainly didnt react the way it should when being hit. you would expect a head to basically explode upun impact from that type of round, but his didnt even really move at all

You are correct in that Islam is much more of an issue today than any other religion. Modern Christianity is pretty much benign.

My point is religion may be used as a moral code. But, virtually everyone has a basic sense of right and wrong anyway. Is murder Okay? Almost all will say no. But, in too many cases like the one in France a religious doctrine is used to violate basic human conscience. "It says in book X, verse Y that killing the whoever is justified." In the minds of the killers it's Okay to kill a cartoonist: God said so.

It's difficult to see exactly where the bullet struck. I'd agree if the bullet struck the brain, but it could've went through the lower part of the head, the jaw or neck.

Now, I'm always suspicious of any "official" account of something like this. But, thinking the killing of this police officer was some sort of theater in this context is kind of silly.

i would agree, but the puff of smoke a couple feet from his head shows clearly where it hit the concrete. and his head made basically no movement at all after the shot was fired.

that said, it definitely seems strange anyone would act that out. who the hell knows anything anymore

In the big picture why stage the killing of a police officer? They just killed many others. It wouldn't change the narrative.

I've always found the alliance between left-wingers and religious Muslims very strange. In Britain there's an old Socialist called George Galloway who heads a political party that draws most of its support from Muslims. As you say, some of the classic liberal ideas such as women's rights, gay rights, free speech etc don;t seem to sit well with religion in general. I guess it's just an example of a temporary alignment of interests in opposing things like the 'War on (of??) Terror'.

I have the same liberal friends who staunchly defend Islamification of Europe. I'm glad I'm not the only one that notified the irony of these people also championing gay rights and feminism. I just hope they wake up before they get their heads chopped for being haram.

Liberals will take support wherever they can find it. Casting a wide net is the only way they can get enough support to win elections.

It's indeed very interesting. On the one hand, you have an ideology that represents everything that secular leftism ordinarily claims to hate, and which it bitterly attacks and decries in its Christian form.

On the other hand, the ideology is held by people with slightly darker skin, many in former euro colonies. This is the holiest of Holies for many modern leftists, who are primarily concerned with racial equality as the greatest moral principle and the fundamental sacred law that underpins their weltanschaung.

That is why you get the weird split on the left on this issue. Two sacred gods, which conflict in the world of Islam.

Definitely looked odd to me. I expected to see some JFK-like head explosion at that range.
