There are tradeoffs. Slower fighters have got the clinch on DC. DC is going to get in there just fine. There is NO EVIDENCE so suggest he couldn't.

DC is great but he's never fought a guy nearly as quick as Gustafsson (hands and feet), nor one as mobile with great TDD on top of all that. Even if he did get the clinch, that doesn't mean the end for Gus or even Jones. DC will have to finish him because Gus won't allow him to just smother and take him down for 3 or 5 rounds. Gustafsson will be very dangerous when Cormier tries to come in to close the gap and he could very well eat some big shots (ie. uppercuts & knees).

And once he's there it'll be the same old. Sorry, you can live in a fantasy world where Gus can shuck off anyone's takedowns, but if Shogun can hit a takedown, so can Cormier.

Cormier can take down anybody in the division. The question is... what can he do with it? His GnP needs some work and so does his submission game/BJJ (both offensively and defensively). Shogun hit the takedown you speak of after catching a leg kick from Gus back in December of 2012 and then proceeded to punch and then take him down while he still had his leg caught. It's not like Shogun took Gus down by shooting in on him with both feet on the ground from the start or from the clinch. Shogun initially tried taking him down from the clinch with a trip and Gus literally reversed it with one arm (an overhook) and ended up on top.

BTW, if you're counting catching a kick and then driving a fighter backwards to get a takedown then Gus scored two of those alone against Jones where he tripped him to the ground right after.

Barnett would beat DC. Bigfoot very likely could as well. Mir and Roy would struggle a bit more but they'd certainly be interesting fights. DC is a small 205er and he was ragdolling top HWs. To say he's not in Gus's league is absurd. Guy's never lost a round.

Jones will soundly beat Gus in the rematch, but if he didn't, Cormier would wreck him.
