Cormier had a pretty good interview with Ariel Helwani yesterday:

"I want to be really careful with my words right now because we still don't know much. Jones is entitled to due process. I just feel that the sad part about this whole thing is i really believe he never needed to anything wrong.

Dana White called me and said i would get the belt back if Jones was on steroids. That's a bit of a tricky situation because the first time i won the belt, i actually won it by beating Rumble Johnson. This time i would just be given the belt.

I would still accept the title because if he was cheating, then that wasn't fair to me. I would hold the belt with pride like i always did, but i would also understand where the fans are coming from with the 'paper champ' thing"

dc must be happy to know that he is the real lhw goat. Jones was a scam all this time along.
 
Well if it's a no contest or DQ, then I could see them saying DC retains the title.
 
I love DC but I have been listening to and reading everything he has said..and I starting to think he's trying to hard...come on, the guys gotta be a little pissed...me thinks he's embracing the good guy role a little to much..

Vitor & Lyoto popped themselves though so it's tricky.

But if Jones would have lost to Gustafsson like he should have if he was clean he would have a Chris Weidman type of legacy where he'd just be known for cleaning out outdated LHWs rather than a GOAT contender.

He's just confused as fuck right now. He doesn't know what to say and wants to be careful with his words at the same time. We are still early in the process.

If he was the GOAT he would have beat him regardless. Thats what GOATs do. Peds dont make someone unebeatable. Plenty of ped users have lost fights.
 
Good to see DC taking the high road here.

He knows he'll never fight Jones again (so no need to pretend-hype bad blood), and he knows that Jones' B sample will almost certainly come back positive and Jones will be banned for a long time and Jones' achievements will be disqualified in the minds of most observers.

Cheaters only cheat because they have to. Lance Armstrong had to cheat in order to win the Tour De France. Ben Johnson had to cheat to beat Carl Lewis and set a world record.

Similarly, Jones used because he could not compete at the highest level without it. That was obvious in the OSP bout, and I'm sure no one knew it better than Jon himself.

The most telling sign of Jones' addiction to PED's was that he could not stop taking them even after he had been busted the first time. That is probably the most damning indictment of his need for PED's.

It is what it is, but I don't understand in this situation, why he would be considered a paper champ. He was champ before, the fight becomes a No Contest, so yeah, he's still the champ. Especially considering that means Jones would be probably be suspended for 4 years. If Jones were suspended like 1 year, I guess maybe paper champ, but 4 years on top of the no contest and having beaten every other top contender? I don't think people should be calling him a paper champ.
 
Let's be honest, Jones popping is probably going to kill a guy like DC forever.

DC is a real competitor and I'd bet that he's always going to wonder whether or not he would have beat Jones if Jon was clean and based on DC's age and Jones pending suspension we will likely never see that fight again and even if we do, DC's is likely going to be multiple fights past his prime.
 
He's being too nice, maybe a bit of stockholm syndrome? He should be saying that Jones must have needed PEDs to win otherwise why take them?
 
I don't think there's any way that we can objectively know that he didn't need the Peds. If he was indeed off of the stuff during the OSP fight, then it looked like he actually did need the gear to be at the elite level. And please don't quote me saying anything about ring rust, because he had just as much amount of time off going into the second DC fight as he did in the OSP fight. Only difference is in the second DC fight he came back looking like the Jon Jones of old, and then oh what do you know he pisses hot again
 
Bones wouldnt have beat Gustafsson and who know who else, steroids are a rediculous advantage! Just look at Overeem weak chinny LHW loser to destroyer of man. Put that LHW wimp (overeem) in with Badr Hari and see what would of happend, same with Bones Jones
