DC HW champ

With DC-Stipe coming up, we need to look back at DCs HW career.
After Werdum-Overeems bizarre fight, and Overeem moved to the UFC, DC came in as an "alternate" and won the GP.

Later, Werdum fought DCs bigger training partner Cain, and beat him up pretty handidly both on the feet and on the ground. (I really don't believe in the altitude excuse, as Werdum came into the fight injured and Cain had 2 full weeks of training at altitudes. There is always something to blame it on). The fight was pretty one sided. Cain is supposedly the bettter submission grappler than DC and is bigger and stronger.

Then comes the question. Had DC met Werdum in Strikeforce, would he have lost to the rangier guy with some of the best grappling in mma history? Or is DC so much better than Cain?

Cain is one of the only guys I actually believe when there are excuses made for him. There is a total difference from healthy Cain and excuse Cain. However I think Werdum would've had a much better shot at beating DC back then than he does now, but I doubt he would've won. He would've been the favorite to win back then I'm sure.

Well the genius Nagoon drones had Stipe KTFO before the fight started. The Daniel drones are just as stupid. The drones went silent after the last fight and the drones will STFU again after this fight. Does he cry because because he gets schooled, again?

Werdum was not really confident in his striking yet in strikeforce and i think he would have had a hard time taking DC down so i think that fight had gone DC's way back then.

I actually think Werdum was a better fighter at that time, as he was younger and stronger (and USADA), and that his striking had more to do with gameplanning for different opponents... But you might be right. What about now? Do you think HW DC is a much better striker than Cain, and can win that way? I don't know..

isn't werdum out for a while due to a failed drug test anyway? If DC beats stipe he might retire before werdums get a crack at him

Really hope he wins, he deserves it. If he then went on to defend the HW belt against a Werdum or Ngannou or Overeem (or dare I dream? Cain) I would call him the number 1, undisputed GOAT.

The guy looked like a world beater in Strikeforce. He was much more raw back than, younger, also wasn't KO'd.

Old DC took the toughest opponent available in Stipe. Win or lose, he deserves a ton of respect.

DC has a good shot to win against Stipe but really from a wrestling point of view. From a striking skills set I think Stipe can beat DC, will be a great fight to watch.

We're talking about a hypothetical match of who would of won between DC vs Werdum during the Strikeforce HW grand prix 7 years ago.

I think DC would of been able to handle Werdum , his wrestling would of dictated where the fight would go , and Werdums striking wasn't as devolved as it would go on to be when he made his second run at the UFC , also i think Cormiers top control would of been enough to nullify Werdums submission attempts if it hit the ground .....

And as far as who's the better fighter ? DC is better then Cain .... DC's a superior wrestler ... and not to mention has only pulled from a fight once due to injury ( UFC 197 against Jones if i recall correctly ) where Cain hasn't fought on a consistent basis for almost 5 years.

Nah .... it would of been Volkov ( Werdum would get creamed by DC at this point of his career ) or a superfight against Lesnar if DC chooses for one more fight ....

I think DC retires after Stipe. It is his last money fight.

Still...I would like to see how DC does vs someone like Werdum, that had a good way of beating Cain. Guys that cant outstrike Werdum normally have a big problem... I am not so sure DCs striking is good enough, since Werdum has no fear of his takedowns.
