DC Believes Reyes' Size Is A Threat To Jones

Reyez nearly lost to Ozedemier. The same dude that got Choked Out by an MW journeyman! <36>

And Jones just got his ass kicked by a 1 legged journeyman MW you dummie. Why is that being ignored? You Jones tards keep spouting that non sense about Reyes. And yet Jones was losing rounds to Gusmao and Stephen freaking Bonnar when he was coming up. Beating Volkan by a clear 2-1 decision>>>>>beating Stephen Bonnar 2-1. You Jones fanboys are scared because you sense the Inevitable that Reyes is gonna make Jones look real bad, so you are doing everything to disregard Reyes in the hopes Jones never fights him

I think Gus 1 was incredibly formative for Jones. Jones fought tall and lanky guys on his rise up, but nothing quite like Gus. Gus had the hands, footwork, and TDD to cause legit problems for Jones. Whether Jones trained appropriately or not, Jones had issues.

However, Jones made the changes in the second fight. Hampered Gus' movement with kicks, utilized the clinch more, feinted TDs, kept his distance, and let Gus do the chasing. So, in theory, Jones has an answer.

What can Reyes do to succeed? Circle, cut-off, and use technical striking. He'd have to pressure, but he'd also gotta be wary of the clinch, and his lead leg among other things like the the TDs. Reyes doesn't have the speed or volume of Gus, but he definitely hits harder and uses kicks more.

He's not as unpredictable or explosive as Walker, so he might not give Jones too much to think about, which may be an issue because Jon usually out thinks and outworks his opponents, and I believe fighters have to prepare for the mind and intangibles of Jones, not just what they see on first impression.

For example, Glover was a very heavy hitter. Jon hadn't fought one of those in awhile at the time. Jon used the clinch to lock up Glover's arm to hyperextend it. All of Glover's power shots did little damage to Jones as he worn on and beat Glover up in the phone booth. It was just one of those things that became a factor early on, but didn't pay off until later in the rounds. Kinda like investing in the body, not just to tire out the opponent, but to condition their responses so that an attack high while feinted low lands on the face.

This is what Reyes and other contenders have to prepare for.
Its evident you really have no idea what you are talking about. You dont understand fighting and talk like someone who just plays the UFC video games and thinks stats win fights or..."but explosivness, but unpredictability, but Jones is Jones." While thinking about everything in the most vague of generalities.
1. Being explosive doesnt win fights. When you go at the same speed every time, you telegraph, you are much easier to read
2. Reyes is far more technically sound then Walker, which is what is going to give Jones trouble. Jones always talks about watching footage so that he can get the "read on his opponents." Hes always going to see Walker trying to explode from a mile away, and run away from it, just like he did against Santos every time Satnos tried to load up with his punches. Santos instead troubled Jones with the movement, being out of kicking range, stepping in and kicking Jones so Jones could never set his feet and kick, and then getting off the line. In where Jones with his terrible footwork, poor ring cutting, and terrible boxing spent most the fight chasing Santos around while walking into kicks. Jones is insanely over rated and shouldnt even be top 10 p4p when it comes to actual skill. Jones is lucky LHW never really had any legit actual sound boxers. That changes with Reyes. It's going to be much harder for Jones to "read" Reyes when Reyes is fienting him, popping his jab, changing up the speeds of his shots, working the body, mixing in kicks. Plus hes never ever faced a legit countering threat like Reyes. The difference is Jones has never fought anyone even remotely like Reyes. Reyes can do what Santos did. Reyes can do what Gus did. Reyes is all of that in one, he can do it all, plus he has an iron will unlike Gus, and he has legit KO power unlike Gus. Reyes wont need to land 254 punches on Jones like Gus, to do the same amount of damage as Gus. Reyes landing 254 punches on Jones literally puts Jones in a morgue. Reyes is the worst match up possible for Jones. Reyes is going to beat the fuck out of Jones worse then when Jones beat Shogun. Jones is now going to know what it felt like to be in Shoguns shoes getting thrashed by the younger hungrier better fighter. Reyes also made another great point when he said Jones has never fought a Mexican before. Jones thrives on "out grinding" his opponents. He isnt out-grinding a Mexican. Reyes is a terrible terrible match up for Jones. Jones knows it which is why he wants nothing to do with that fight. Jones would rather finally go to HW then fight Reyes lmao. That tells you everything

You mean the same 1 legged journey man that was in a wheel chair for 2 months after the jones fight.

That one ?

This is a weird comment. Gus gave Jones a very stiff challenge, and it isn't incredible to think his size played a part in that. The argument is not that size alone will defeat Jon. but that size contributes to a skillset and strategy that could defeat Jones. Seems like an obvious observation by DC and not controversial at all.
Also, Reyes is a lot faster than Gus. He's a much better athlete.

I'm actually really excited to see Jones against the new crop of Reyes, Rakic and Walker.

Gus that fought Jones and DC almost to a stand still in the first two fights beats the current version of Reyes easily.

Gus of today (or when he was not retired) is a shell of his former self.

You sir are trolling lol. Santos blew out his knees planting and kicking. It had nothing to do with Jones. That 1 legged journeyman MW BEAT Jones and was ROBBED blind

Styles do make fights. While Reyes is tailor made to fucking ruin Jones, Reyes actually could have a some what tougher fight against Gus due to Gustafsson's boxing (Jones has shit boxing and shit footwork. Jones is all about controlling the distance with kicks and stiff arms/eye pokes)

Well, I never stated it was the only thing someone needed. Machida had some success because he kinda blitzed out of nowhere, but there was some technicality involved by utilizing some timing, same as Santos to an extent.

I never said Walker was more technical than Reyes. And well timed bursts can be effective if executed in the most opportune moment and not used frequently. I also implied Reyes can utilize technicality and footwork to cause Jones problems. I'm not in total disagreement with your points. Santos, utilizing a sound strategy, still had some trouble with the distance, partly due to leg injury and the distance management of Jones. As a result, there was a lot of reading of ranges and dull moments.

And outbeating Jones on the feet is surely a strategy, but Jon has other tools. If they are within clinch range, Jones will fight from inside, use clinch and chain wrestling. So Jones isn't limited to just getting lit up on the feet. If Jones didn't have a strong wrestling background, I would agree on more of your points. Granted Jones hasn't relied on it has often as he could have, evidence suggests he has these techniques in his back pocket.

Jones is an amalgamation of a lot of what works, sure he has a few bad tales and never evolved his boxing to proficiency, but there are way more wrinkles to his game making some of his issues hard to exploit or take advantage of. That's the difference between Jon and a guy like Luke. Similar attributes, but Luke is missing offensive grappling, clinch game, and head movement. Jones has all of these, which offset some of his weaknesses.

The man did not even make Jones go to his wrestling, which is jones strongest asset.

The sad point is that Jones did not even have to use his wrestling to beat Santos. He beat a guy who has better striking than him in a stand up fight.

At the end of the day had Jones even mixed his wrestling and striking, that fight would have been a very different fight. A real threat to jones is a guy who makes jones go to his strengths, which is his wrestling base, and until they can do that, I dont see them as threat.

He fought jones that did not even find it necessary to go to his wrestling.

Check out my edit. Anyway all it took to beat Jones was simple lateral movement, never being there to be kicked, and then stepping in and kicking Jones on his terms, to prevent Jones from setting his feet and kicking. Jones is the most over rated fighter in MMA. Jones with his terrible footwork, poor ring cutting, terrible boxing couldnt do anything about it. Couldnt get in. Couldnt kick like he wanted to (if Jones cant control the distance with kicks hes half the fighter). Santos is not a good boxer though. When ever he would try to catch Jones with punches, he would lunge in, not setting it up, not masking with inteligenent measured fienting. (Fients work so much more when you actually establish a credible threat). That gave Jones time to read it and run away. That isnt going to happen against Reyes. Reyes has the kicking but more importantly THE BOXING. Jones has never ever faced a legit countering threat like Reyes either Gus may have been a good boxer for MMA LHW standards, but you will see that Gus was never a counter puncher. He rarely ever countered or fought off the counter. Just ask Alvarez what happens when you are constantly facing the threat of a counter from a counter puncher. Jones has never seen that in his life at LHW. You are going to see the threat of the counter from Reyes make Jones hesitant and second guess himself. The uneducated who know nothing about fighting will say Jones did not look himself while never understanding why.
Another thing is that Machida had success because he was timing Jones kicks with left straights. When you kick you are on 1 leg and it takes time to get back to stance. Thats a long time being off balance. Machida would just step in with lefts before Jones could get back to stance from his kicks. Too many fighters stay at bay. They dont know the timing. You are also going to see Reyes do this to Jones. Jones has bad head movement and drops guard routinely. You are going to see Reyes exploit this too. Its going to be brutal in all the ways which Reyes exploits Jones. Jones has a good clinch game, but ask Cain what happens when you lock up with a tall fighter who can pull your head down and or shoot knees up the middle. Reyes is going to eat Jones alive. Jones has no advantages

Except 1 judge had Santos beating Jones. It was a split decision. Most agree that Santos beat Jones. Jones couldnt utilise his wrestling because Santos was not standing in front of him to be grabbed, he kicked the shit out of Jones legs compromising his base, and stuffed the 1 time Jones did try and shoot a takedown. Jones fans don't understand fighting and attribute his losses to conspiracy theory bullshit *jones chose not to fight this way/didnt take his opponent seriously blah blah. I hope delusional Jones fans who cant accept that Jones is human, dont start acting like delusional Anderson fans when Reyes fucks the shit out of Jones "but Jones wasnt himself/Jones wasnt serious"

Jones had multiple chances to take Santos down and did not. Jones even dropped Santos and never went for the take down. Jones put Santos on his ass twice in that fight.

Jon Jones is not a shoot wrestler, he is a clinch wrestler. His strength is his clinch wrestling.

How long have you been watching MMA?

gus is 6 ft 3 1/2 own words.. ufc always change measurements like wwe

DC loves to pretend his rivalry with Jones was like Chuck and Randy where Chuck ultimately came out on top of a competitive trilogy that Randy won in and not like well...DC and Jones where Jones has spanked him literally every time, in every scenario.

If you know so much about beating Jones why couldn't you?
