Another great in depth story on one of the first dynamic strikers in mma.

Talks about all Canadian prospects, his ufc career and how little he got paid for his title fight vs rich franklin. And of course you can’t forget gsp vs bj penn 2

I really thought David could/would win 😩

Same. Tbh, just from a fight fan perspective, I was never a rich franklin fan. Outside of the quarry and chuck ko, his fights usually kind of bored me. Even when he finished his fights… They were always the same in a way and very anti climatic

I remember David and Georges being mentioned in the same breath. Both blue chippers. What a different trajectory their careers took...

rarely has a single loss ever disabled a guy so singlehandedly.

Time to rewatch The Striking Truth.

Feels like it was yesterday huh
I still remember the details even though it seems like a different world. We'd drive down to family video and rent ufc and pride fc on DVD, they even had VHS tapes of the earlier pre zuffa ufc. I haven't had a soda in decades but I remember what a mountain dew code red tastes like.

I also thought he'd win because he had cool spin attacks.

Also, separately I have always under looked rich Franklin even though he's a well rounded fighter with a great work ethic. I don't even know why because he's very consistent. Even before Anderson put his stamp on him. He's an incredibly solid b+ fighter.

I remember seeing the old ufc on vhs in like 1999 at a mom and pop shop video store.

But once got really into it, I hit up blockbuster for the newer ones religiously

The Crow had some skillz…but just never seemed to have that drive and determination.

Such a great fight. I was a huge fan of The Crow back in the day.
Yeah and it just seemed absurd that he was the one visiting Ace Ventura in hospital after the punishment he just took from him
