Because the only reason to remake an iconic, award-winning film is to capitalize monetarily on the existing name/popularity/success, while using cheap modern social nonsense as your mechanism for delivery. Anybody with a brain sees it's highly unoriginal and a "money grab". In fact, it should almost be seen as offensive by the POC who would be given a "secondary" attempt for studios to rake in as much as they can; under that virtuous headline of diversity!

Hobbits are pretty thorough about tracking their family trees back to one of the three families they're all descended from.

You could probably fit hobbits of all sorts of colours into the boundaries of that fictional universe - but it would require explanation, or bad writing. And explaining it away would be hard to do without breaking the established history of the fictional universe - which would also be bad writing.

Whenever you're compelled to fill in gaps on behalf of the writer (such as by challenging people's knowledge on the genetic variation of hobbits) then the writer did a shitty job. If a poor writer does a shitty job with a beloved work just to make a political point, people are often going to take exception to it.
And you should be concerned with the quality of creative works - poor writing can lead to poor thinking.

You know, we joke about the "you're so special no matter who you are" shit that started popping up in the early 2000s but it could be a factor into why there are so many people on anti-depressants these days.

If you tell a generation that they're special no matter what and society is wrong for not praising them just for being alive, why would they make any real effort to improve themselves? Life without drive/purpose to improve yourself (whether physically, mentally or socially) would be very depressing.

And instead of sending the message to get up and do something to improve yourself and you'll find happiness, we tell them "no, just take these pills and hopefully you'll feel better and continue to not have any drive, telling yourself you're great, no matter what"

day to day life for people that were raised to believe they are special just because must be awful.
reality is a brutal antidote to that.
 
Cancel culture literally all comes down to money and fanbase.

Example:

Joe Rogan / Dave Chapelle / Ricky Gervais:

  • All have a hardcore fanbase who love them for the fact they broach controversial topics and have humour that is often close to the bone.
  • Whoever benefits financially from these guys (Netflix, as an example), know that SJW's complaining isn't going to do a thing to harm their fanbase - their fanbase is their fanbase because of who they are.
  • Netflix realises that financially, no harm will be done = nobody gets cancelled.

More mainstream / middle of the road celebrities / comedians:

  • Due to being mainstream, have a wide-ranging fanbase that will often include SJW types and those who are easily offended, because their act isn't based upon offensive humour in the first place. It's safe - a safe space for these types to enjoy comedy.
  • Whoever benefits financially from these guys/girls, knows that SJW complaints WILL hit them financially because SJWs are a big part of the fanbase.
  • "Netflix" or similar demands a grovelling public apology, or if refused, cancels that person and issues the grovelling apology themselves to try and keep the money coming in.

Look at Ben Shapiro (a wanker, by the way). He literally spends his entire time on Twitter baiting minority groups - why hasn't he been cancelled?

Because he, and his fanbase, don't fucking care if you are offended. So nothing matters.

These people are going to be disabused of any notion that they have any power beyond that of being token representation of tolerance. This shit didn't work at Spotify with Rogan and isn't going to work here with Chapelle. The cost benefit analysis just isn't on their side. Not by a loooooong shot. Eh. It is. Not that I care too much. Hobbits are, at least in middle earth, all located in one place. Asians and black people and white people all look different because theyre ancestors came from very different environments and their features reflect that.

Hobbits are all located in one region, The Shire, and just for the hell of it I Google searched it and learned that it has a population of 140,000. So it's basically one medium sized city of an indigenous people all located in the same area. Realistically speaking, yes they would all share similar features and you wouldn't see a Mexican version of a hobbit standing next to a Japanese version any more than if the human race was all located in Birmingham and you see a mix of white people with Indonesians.

But whatever.
