Recently listened to a podcast with Rashad Evans speaking about when Bernard Hopkins was showing him the right hand. I'm sure most of you have seen the video. If not, here it is https://youtu.be/SHwPBTDDp00 Anyways, on the podcast Rashad refers to it as a dart punch. Can anyone expand on the concept and theory behind this "dart punch"?
I've seen the video several time and I can't make it through it because they talk like idiots. Please someone smack me if I'm wrong here: What BH is saying is throw punches before you get set. Basic boxing is you throw combos like you're on the pads. Next step is you throw them before you set. Not out of place, but before you go................... and then planted and then punch. Dance and punch. 2nd stage of learning to spar.
^That is correct. I don't think Bernard ever calls it a dart punch, but that's how Rashad names it in his mind, which is fine.
I write about it in detail here, its the same principle of punching as the micheal jai white talks about in the kimbo clip. http://powerpunchers.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/kimbo-slice-and-micheal-j-white-clip.html
Pretty sure the name came from Eddie Alvarez. It's that quick lead right that you'll see fighters like him, Edgar and Cruz throw all the time.
