Cormier is a big guy but he's not very tall and carries a lot of spare weight. When he comes up against bigger guys in the division like Jones he finds it difficult. It's too late now as he is nearing retirement but if he was willing to cut down he would have dominated MW. Anderson would have had nothing for him we've already seen how that fight goes. DC is too strong of a wrestler. He'd have a much bigger size advantage at MW and wouldn't have to worry about his T-rex reach. He could easily walk around the cage at 205/210 maybe more come fight night if he had a specialist looking after his cut. LHW is a weaker division than MW so I understand why he didn't want to go down but lets say the divisions were equally stacked, he would have more success in MW in my opinion. Agree?
He is the fucking champ at LHW and beat Gustaffson who is taller than Jones and won the Strikeforce HW GP but he's too small for LHW?
Cormier would literally kill himself trying to get to 185. He almost died in the Olympics trying to cut.
You think DC could survive that weight cut and join Conor in Skeletor form? There is a limit on how much weight you can healthily cut. DC is short, but he's a naturally dense guy.
At his age with the cutting issues he had in the past, I don't think that would be a good idea. He's doing just fine where he's at. And he did quite well at HW too.
This is him at 182. Does that look like a guy killing himself to make 205? He could make 185 with little problems if he had a nutritionist monitoring his diet
Assuming he made weight and was healthy by some miracle. He would be the much slower awkward striking guy in the cage.
You dont understand how weight cutting works. Just because he isnt shredded doesnt mean he has more to cut.
I never said he was too small. Can you point out where I said that? Being better suited to a lower division does not equal too small for a division. Frankie Edgar is much more suited to 145. That doesnt mean he didnt have a lot of success in 155.
If he leaves LHW, it should definitely be to go up and challenge for the heavyweight title. Cormier is a guy that does not get as much respect as he probably deserves. But if he was to win the HW title, people would have no choice but to give him his due. Plus he'd go down as one of the most accomplished fighters of all time.
smh. This is like when people say Mark Hunt couldn't make 205. Dolce could get it done. Explain to me how it's impossible for him to shed any more weight?
Cormier in college wrestling at 184 This is college but this shows that Cormier isn't some naturally pudgy guy and that he just got fat after college.
