Although Daniel Cormier did not suffer any damage in his UFC 173 octagon outing against Dan Henderson, he did injure his LCL 10 days ahead of the scheduled match-up. The former Strikeforce Grand Prix champion told UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that he seriously injured his LCL ahead of the match-up against Henderson, and was actually considering withdrawing from the fight. He ultimately decided to go through with it and ended up defeating the PRIDE legend via third round submission. Cormier intends to visit a doctor soon to have his knee scoped out, but also revealed that his ACL has been troubling him for a while and he was worried it may require surgery. Cormier earned No. 1 contender status with his win over Henderson but still has to wait to meet the winner of Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson, which has not been scheduled for any upcoming PPV event. It is being targeted for UFC 177, which takes place on August 30, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
