Ariel Helwani revealed on UFC Tonight that Daniel Cormier had injured his LCL ahead of UFC 173 and may even require surgery on his ACL, which has troubled him for a while.

Although Daniel Cormier did not suffer any damage in his UFC 173 octagon outing against Dan Henderson, he did injure his LCL 10 days ahead of the scheduled match-up.

The former Strikeforce Grand Prix champion told UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that he seriously injured his LCL ahead of the match-up against Henderson, and was actually considering withdrawing from the fight. He ultimately decided to go through with it and ended up defeating the PRIDE legend via third round submission.

Cormier intends to visit a doctor soon to have his knee scoped out, but also revealed that his ACL has been troubling him for a while and he was worried it may require surgery.

Cormier earned No. 1 contender status with his win over Henderson but still has to wait to meet the winner of Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson, which has not been scheduled for any upcoming PPV event. It is being targeted for UFC 177, which takes place on August 30, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I just want Cormier to get a title shot. The man deserves it.

It can't be that bad since he was able to lift up and slam Dan Henderson.

    Sharpish.
He'll be fine. He has plenty of time to recover and wait on the Gus/Jones winner. The only reason people are throwing a hissy fit and wanting DC to get the title shot anyway is because they want Jones to lose and think DC is the man to do it. Has nothing to do with whether or not he deserves it. Calm your titties ladies. He'll get his shot.

Sounds like a good excuse not to fight until Jones rematches Gus.

Maybe his ACL and LCL issues were the reason he didn't finish Dan sooner. Dan has great knockout power, so DC had to avoid Hendo's strikes, but if DC's knees were injured, it would make it extremely difficult to not get KO'd by Hendo.

I hope not. ACL surgery at 36? I don't like his odds to come back at 100% if it happens.

Assuming all of our suspiciousness are accurate (lol), it's pretty smart actually. This way if Jones claims injury as his reason for not signing up for the match, he won't be able to get Gus and DC to fight instead.

Again, this is all far-fetched theorizing for shits and giggles but it's pretty funny to me.

Edit: I r gud typ guy! (damn typos)

Trying to trick Jones into taking a quick fight with him or something, or setting up for Jones to start targeting his legs with kicks so he can go for the easy takedown. He ain't injured.

LOL I meant Cormier finished Hendo in the third round because of his knee injury; had he not been injured, he would have finished Hendo in the first round. Cormier had to stay on the defensive because his knees were injured and he had to watch out for Hendo's knockout punch.
