He's right
That version of DC was levels beyond any version of Stipe. In fact, it's not even close.
His boxing was really good, especially on the inside. He was fast, dynamic and found openings on the hardest fighter in MMA to actually hit.
People need to realize that Jones DC 2 was like the modern crocop vs Fedor. That was the magnitude of fight it was. Both of those guys took the fight more seriously than they have any other opponent. Throughout his career, theres moments where Jones could just show up at a fraction of himself and win. He needed to tap into his full potential to beat DC.
When DC fought Stipe, it was a much lesser version of him and he still knocked him out / had two close rematches with him.
Jones and DC are the two most skilled fighters of all time at LHW and HW. As time goes on, people will recognize how good DC was as well.
He's one of the best fighters of all time. Stipe is good, but he's not THAT good. Most of his career was spent beating old, past prime HW's. You cannot discount his skill and accomplishments, but he does not deserve a place among the short list of all time p4p greats. He simply wasn't on that level and I mean that in the most respectful way possible.
The HW division just isn't as good as people think it is.
But recency bias is a real thing and I think a lot of people most clearly remember an older, slower, less technical and dynamic version of DC losing to Stipe.
I just watched the Jones DC 2 fight again recently. How good DC looked and performed is greatly underrated because people only remember the knockout.
