Media Daniel Cormier - Jon Jones would beat Tom Aspinall If They Fought Right Now

I thought this was an interesting tidbit I didn’t see posted anywhere, lol

DC also said jones beats Ngannou on several occasions

(For the record, prime DC beats them both as well)

DC is using MMAth here.

If Jon Jones beats Aspinall and since DC lost to Jon, DC could say that he's = Aspinall.

If Aspinall beats Jon then Aspinall>Jones>DC

Jones has no desire for the Aspinall fight.

Too hard for him to fight a losing fight. He doesnt have it in him anymore to train for Aspinall

With Jones I think he’s just thinking about the cost benefit analysis, even if you have the tools to win, there’s still a chance to get knocked out.

Is it really worth taking the risk when there’s better options available against similar aged opponents who have more accolades to their name like Pereira or Ngannou, but who don’t have the advantage of youth and speed.

Jones is the best defensive fighter In mma history and that mentality is the reason why. Not unlike GSP in that regard. He’s always thinking of the smartest move that can be made on the chess board.

Chael has talked about this too. He said that Jones is so good, that he doesn’t need to be as self preserving and cautious as he is, but that’s also what makes him Jon Jones and that same mentality is responsible for his fight iq being as high as it is, he’s always thinking of every angle.

The other thing is does Aspinall genuinely excite him, does it make him wake up with fire in his belly to train like his life depends on it?

I think this is one of the biggest factors that doesn’t get talked about enough, especially with older fighters who are struggling to find the motivation just to regularly train as they did during their youth.

Just wanted to play devils advocate on the back of DC’s comments and highlight that the reason fights don’t happen is sometimes a bit more complex than it seems.

Especially with fighters who are within retirement age and are looking for the perfect fight that checks all the boxes and truly gets them excited.

Sometimes it’s deeper than just money.

He just wants his loses to seem more acceptable. He hasn't ever been able to cope. I can understand since he lost to a cheat but he did lose

I think this is more DC wanting to be ringside for Jones 1st real loss and dreams of being the one to interview him in the cage right after it happens.

the problem is, his whole argument is on Jon dragging Tom into the deep waters. he doesn't really account for what if Tom sleeps him in the 1st rd.

That fight would have ended pretty quickly imo. Jones would have tried to circle a bit and threw some kicks to keep some distance. But i see aspinal catching him anyway with his hands and knocking him out in 1 or 2 rounds.
On a side note, DC is unbearable these days.

He keeps saying something different for the clicks. If he kept saying the same thing people would tune out

It has always struck me as odd that Jones is so cautious and calculating as a fighter - both inside the cage ("fight IQ") and outside the cage (accepting matchups, planning weightclass moves, etc.) - and yet, as a non-fighter he's about as reckless and shortsighted as we've ever seen - based on his criminal record alone.

It's like he just does a great job of saving up all of his responsibility and self-composure and using it only for fighting, which makes him a virtually unbeatable fighter, and an unrespectable human.

Jon would beat Rico Verhoeven in kickboxing as well, but Rico is ducking him
Hes once in a lifetime like Rousey, he never even lost a round in 25 years

Very disginenuous stuff from DC here. Almost like he's a super disingenuous guy in general idk call me crazy
