We can only speculate about somebody's prime. Look at Lawler. Big Nog's career was pretty much over at the age of 32 when he lost to Mir. Wear and tear is worse than age.

This was also DC's what, second fight at 205? Notice that Jones wanted to fight him instead of Gus. I think part of that had to do with the man not being accustomed to the weight yet.

There's a difference between facing Heavies vs Light Heavyweights.
Hello, Rashad almost lost to Sam Hoger when he first moved down to 205.

Of course there's the issue of the roids too helping Jon out too.

Perhaps, but yet we've time and time again seen a far interior wrestler beat a highly decorated one in MMA time and time again, even in the grappling aspect. So despite being a far superior athlete than their opponent in one sport, they are worse in another.

Everyone knows a physically prime DC wouldn't even be fair.

Could you imagine a DC that can go all 5, but with more speed, power, and explosiveness? Also, movement. Have you guys seen him in his younger days on the wrestling mat? The guy was quick as a cat, and could do things this older version just can't.

Imagine a DC that moves like a LW/WW fighting at LHW. Not fair.
 
So many what ifs in this thread. Here are some facts: DC didn't start MMA until he did so we will never know what could have been. Jon Jones has fought and beaten everyone the UFC has put in front of him. DC is a great fighter but as long as Jones is around he'll always be second best.
 
Yes he is , he is way past his athletic prime and still competing with an enhanced Jones while being 5'11 with 72 inches reach
Jones has the best frame for MMA though, and strong genetics ( although I think a prime DC around 2008 was probably way more athletic )
