Perhaps it would have been way better had Usman gone for a highlight reel finish, but in the current MMA environment even a finish inside of a minute wouldn't have necessarily gotten Usman any closer to contender status. Really, there's not much of anything he could have done in this fight to make detractors see the light as to how far he can go, with the exception of the hype bandwagon purists who would jump right off if he didn't get an awesome finish in the next fight..
And it was rather blatantly disrespectful to have him be facing a guy coming off of a single UFC win in his debut at this stage of his fight career. That said, he clearly didn't do himself any favors with his post fight protests and should learn that when it comes to fight talking, you either have it - Conor, Diaz brothers, Chael, Bisping - or you don't - the vast majority of the remaining fighters - and if you don't have it, place your head down and just fight.
