Dana White talk about money changing the drive and hunger in fighters.

Whenever fighter finances gets discussed I always kinda wonder what they're spending and investing their money on. Purses, or pay for us normies, have never really been how the majority of people make their overall wealth at the end of the day. The goal is usually to make money to make more money, which makes you more money while you do nothing, to the point you no longer need to earn anything from your labour as your investments "pay" you.

- GSP buying outright a modest condo in DT Montreal near his gym and life after his first $1M payday (Fitch?) that he still has to this day? Great purchase and investment. Brought down his costs and time and across these last 15 years has probably 4x in value
- Hendricks buying a shitty steakhouse and putting zero effort into it? Terrible purchase and investment. Lost money and reputation.

Fighter pay could be better, but the biggest difference in athletes lives would probably be some basic financial planning on what they actually do with their pay to set themselves up OUTSIDE of fighting. I dislike the idea of a pension for fighters by the UFC or organizations, but I mean an option where the UFC simply sets you up with an advisor to help YOU automatically take a portion of your purse for basic self-investing would set up most of the fighters fairly well.

Like you hear guys with nothing after 15 years and it's like... you could've gotten 150% in whatever you put into the S&P after that long. Normies can become millionaires like this with far less pay, or even the ability to simply fight more to generate anothe purse, so why couldn't they?
It’s the Dana White hate, people on here just want to blame Dana for fighters misfortunes.
There are countless fighters who had lackluster careers but invested the money they earned, Koscheck, Faber owns Condos also. Most fighters aren’t the smartest snd best with money, look Tyron Woodley, he spent all his money on fancy cars, jewelry, mansion and he went broke and blamed racism like he always does on why he went broke. Chad Ochocinco Johnson with his first big contract bought a McDonald’s, he owns 3 now. Deion Sanders teaches his players to invest their money instead of buying the bling, fancy cars and shit. Even Dana White tells his fighters that, to invest. They just don’t listen and or uneducated.

There’s a difference between having motivation & taking your opponents lightly. We’ve seen it time and time again across combat sports, with Elite fighters taking their opponents lightly. Badr Hari vs Overeem, Fury vs Ngannou, GSP vs Serra, Conor vs Diaz, Haney vs Garcia.

Those Boxers you named aside from Crawford & Mayweather, are not American, I realize American athletes tend to let their guard down once they reach a certain point, Broner and Lopez after beating Lomachenko comes to mind. They seem to get caught up in a certain lifestyle. While foreign fighters are disciplined.

It’s really not though “few and far between”. You see it across all sports.

That’s a fair point, I just think it’s a double-edged sword; without the excess money they can’t have their own camps and properly prepare, yet with the excess money they’ve achieved a level of success to where they might lose “the edge” to a degree.

But at the end of the day they are still prizefighters fighting for prizes - it’s better to get a bigger prize and it’s better to not get your ass-kicked, if that isn’t motivation enough you weren’t destined for greatness regardless.

Some of these guys are more “competitors” than “fighters” where they are in it for solely the money/fame and not the love of the game, and those with that mindset when they make it to the top can certainly have a drop-off that is more noticeable.

He's always tried to sell that nonsense.
Fighters are hungry for bigger paydays which is why they're so active when climbing the rankings. That and the lack of funds.

But you also have champs like Pereira, Adesanya and Usman who were far more active as champs once they saw the money flowing in.

Of course it makes you less hungry. If you were a rich stripper how often would you go to work? lol

Hey! I got on sherdog and here's another thread of bitches crying about UFC and Dana.

This is UFC-crying thread number one million in 2024 alone. Right?

Waaah.

Pitbull wants out of Bellator PFL. Where does Pitbull want to go?

Yah.

Suck stick you fucking whiners.

Shut up and enjoy the fights. Fucking crybabies.

You don't have to like Dana. I don't like him. I just wanna watch the fights and not live in a world of ghey whiners.

Y'all never stop trying to wreck my dreams.

Yer all bitches.

Its not him selling anything.

He's absolutley right.

If you are a multi-millionaire, there's less incentive to do anything you dont feel like doing.

Conor Mcgregor got 100 mil in the fight with Mayweather and how long did it take him to come back? exactly.

Let me translate for you:

"When fighters are signed to entry contracts, which are lopsided in our favor and subject to us paying a quarter billion dollars in a class action lawsuit, they will do whatever we tell them for 15% table scraps of revenue....

once they are in position to have a modicum of agency and can advocate for themselves, they want us to up the tables scraps a little more, and I don't like that. I like my minions to be poor and in need of handouts to live."

"I like my minions to be poor and in need of handouts to live."
Well, yea of course.

Once these guys dont NEED to fight, they are alot harder to deal with lol

I think theres a middle ground. If you're a top 10 level guy i'd say making mid six to low seven figures per fight seems reasonable, champs in the 3-4mil range per defence. Thats good money but not really cash out money.
What are you a politician?
Who the hell can't retire on that?
Ya gotta have that gold toilet do ya?

To the nerds and meme riders first: dont believe his lies... Dana is a horrible person.. have he bought snow for his driveway again?

Now with that out of the way: thought and what he says about money making fighters less hungry? I mean, its not a new thing. People have said this for years. Its a reason why this was a theme back in Rocky III.

But every time i start to think about this theme, i cant help to think of Floyd Mayweather. I would continue to train and fight hungry, way past McGregor or Ronda money.

i don't think using Floyd as fighters staying hungry when they're rich is a good example. he's the exception not the rule. BJ Penn and Donald Cerrone were also wealthy before they ever fought. but like Floyd they are exceptions. even absolute animals like Marvin Hagler admitted that money will change a fighter.
