Dana White Sounds Off On Francis Carmont-Costa Philippou Contest

UFC president Dana White didn’t enjoy the middleweight scrap at UFC 165 between Francis Carmont and Costa Philippou Saturday night.

Carmont dominated, racking up over 12 minutes of top position, but the match lacked any real highlights from either fighter.

White, sitting Octagon-side in Toronto, agreed with the chorus of booing the Air Canada Centre crowd showered the fighters with.

Sorry I just woke up! Thank god that's over. We decided a shot of @ChrisWeidmanUFC would be more exciting than the end of the fight.

Perhaps, Costa could learn how to not have a shite groundgame and the fight would have been more exciting.

That wasn't even the most boring fight on the card. Jury/Ricci was worse, and honestly, Menjivar/Reis and Trator/Ronson were pretty equivalent.

Yes he did display a fair amount of lay n pray but hey a win's a win and if you can get a win by keeping your opponent on the ground for most of the fight without taking damage then more power to Carmont it's Costa's place to do something about it.

The Larkin robbery was far more frustrating to watch though, more than anything it's encouraging Carmont to continue he laying tendencies.

Bottom line is Costa is too one dimensional and anyone he fights will cruise for an easy win via grappling rather then playing into his only weapon.

It wasnt a barn burner, but guess what? It's not carmonts job to give costa an easy fight. His job is to win. Dana should be more mad about the fact he has a mw in top 10 that can't stop take downs and has no ground game. This is the major league of mma, this guy is ranked higher then his skillset is at, and it showed on sat.

Larkin was able to stuff Carmont's TDs (basically all of them) with only minor difficultly and Costa couldn't stuff barely anything, if anything it really exposed Costa has one trick pony

hell Lawlor who's what top25(ish) MW arguably beat Carmont as well. (fucking judging)

And even the winner should realize the possible consequences of such a performance.

The rules/reffing are in a need of a rehaul. Despite better fighters, who is truly more entertained now than in PRIDE days? Nobody I know.
