Dana White: if Jon Jones doesn’t want to fight, Stipe Miocic will get Ngannou vs Lewis winner

Jon Jones’ loss may become Stipe Miocic’s gain.

With the former 205-pound champion remaining at odds with the UFC over his contract for a return to action at heavyweight, UFC president Dana White isn’t holding up the division with plans already in place for the next title fight as well as potentially a new No. 1 contender.

“Jon Jones is under contract,” White said recently on “The Jake Asman Show.” “He has a contract. We have tried to work with him and see if there are things we can do to make him want to fight at heavyweight. But if he doesn’t want to fight at heavyweight, he doesn’t want to at the end of the day. What are you going to do? You can’t make the guy fight.

“The reality is Derrick Lewis is really the No. 1 contender for the heavyweight championship right now. So it doesn’t matter if Jon Jones wants to fight or doesn’t want to fight.”

While no date has been confirmed, new heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is already expected to clash with Lewis in a rematch with the title going up for grabs later this year.

Ngannou fell to Lewis in their previous meeting — a largely forgettable three round affair back in 2018 — and now all signs are pointing towards them clashing again later this year.

Lewis has won his past four fights in a row including a stunning knockout against Curtis Blaydes in his last outing and when combined with the past win over Ngannou, it’s easy to understand why he’s getting the next title shot.

That said, Jones was originally expected to get the first crack at Ngannou after he became champion but the inability to come to terms with him on a deal for his heavyweight debut nixed that possibility.

White then mentioned perhaps Jones could debut at heavyweight with a fight against Miocic instead but the former light heavyweight champion shot down that idea as well.

In the end, it looks like Miocic might become the biggest beneficiary with the opportunity to reclaim the heavyweight title while Jones remains sidelined for an undetermined amount of time.

“Jon Jones made it very clear that he has no interest in fighting Stipe, so it doesn’t really matter,” White said. “What you do is you do the fight with Derrick Lewis and Francis and then Stipe gets the winner.”

Dana won't come out and say what's really going on because he can't help but lie. He is a pathological liar.

Jon Jones said I want X amount to fight. Dana said "no".

Dana White's deluded translation: "Jones doesn't wanna fight"....

Yeah, he put on all that weight and size for nothing, you dipshit, lying douchebag.

Enough already with Stipe getting title shot rematches without taking another fight. Winner of Gane/Volkov should be next if Jones doesnt want the fight

Title should read "Dana is too cheap to pay Jones what he deserves so now acts like Jones doesnt want to fight".

Dana doesn't like Stipe. Would you like Stipe if you were trying to promote him as champion? He mumbles and has no charisma.

That being said, HW is trash so he will end up with another shot eventually lol.

Stipe turning into the king of losing the title and then remaining inactive while getting an immediate rematch.

Jon Jones is just pricing himself out of a fight at HW. He doesn’t really want it.

Jon Jones is wrapping up his legacy with some bullshit about how Dana wouldn’t let him fight at HW for the right price. He will never fight again.

Dana is right, but it has been orchestrated by Jones to look favourable to him and his legacy. His ego couldn’t handle a loss at HW. Doesn’t matter how much you compensate him. This is how Jones operates.

To be fair the promotions for the UFC were for Stipe to lose. They planned on him losing so they seemed to favor his challengers more in fights. That being said with the way that Ngnannou won I think the winner of Gane vs Volkov should get the shot over the winner of Ngannou vs Lewis which seems to be the front runner.

Well when you're the most accomplished champion the division has seen in the UFC, who more deserving to get some preferential treatment? Like sure, can be annoying if there's real challengers being blocked. But Lewis is getting his shot, Jones was offered the first or second crack at it after. And stipe is the third option in line just because of his strength of schedule as past 2 time and defending champion. Neither Volkov or Gane are really clear next title contenders unless one of them really shows us something in their contest. So what really is him being third in the line of options causing any problems in the divisions pecking order? Jon hasn't even fought at HW and he's ahead of stipe in priority if he wants to accept. Like sure the idea of a fresh challenger is more compelling to us hardcores. But in selling a fight a bigger stipe for him vs N'gannou 3 or vs lewis is a way easier sell than the winner of Ngannou vs lewis against Volkov/gane. Plus Stipe is likely to leave the division and the game all together in the not so distant future. So if they have matches they'd still like to book with him it needs to be now.

I can’t really blame Dana for his lack of support Jon Jones recently. The guy has been a PR nightmare his whole career.

Jon Jones doesn't deserve the money he's asking for. The ufc is a buisness. Conor makes them big money and Jon does not. Stop being fools cuz it's fun to hate on Dana.

Yeah, when Dana Fucking White has the moral high ground over you, it's time to re-evaluate your life.
