Dana White on Miesha Tate: If she's thinking about retirement, she should just do it

"I want somebody that wants it. You know, Miesha Tate is talking about retiring right now. In this sport, when you start thinking about retiring, you should retire. Miesha probably should retire if that's what Miesha's thinking right now. [It's] probably a good idea. But I want girls that, you know - these women think they want that title, but they have no idea what it takes to really have that title and what it means to be a champion and how hard it is to carry it. And like Joanna telling you, ‘I think I want some time off after this fight', because the obligations are hard and very few people can really do it."

Who's HE? Meisha or Joanna's? Confused.

You didn't make any point.

The point is with a female WMMA star his like if you start to have this type of thoughts it's best you retire because this is fighting and its dangerous to not be in it 100%.. but when Conor his biggest cash cow is pulling the same routine his like "I think he will be back".

In reality there both about money and no one actually meant it.. it's just tactics from both fighters trying to bring attention to there issues but they received different responses.

That you can retire whatever your contract says.
Well of course you can. No one has said otherwise. But if you retire while still under contract with the UFC they just freeze your contract. That means that you can't come out of retirement and sign a contract with Bellator etc. because you will still have a contract with the UFC.

I believe there is a period of time that plays into things though.
When Brock left UFC, he owed Zuffa a fight.
By the time that he was thinking of a return, that window closed & he was allowed to field offers from Bellator as well.

McGregor knows this is the only opportunity he has to retire as champ because he has been exposed and any one of his potential opponents are going to take the strap off him. eg Aldo, Holloway, Frankie and Charles Oliveira.
