Iron mike and ali were way bigger in thier time. For having no mass media etc, especially ali, everyone knew who he was. Its far easier w twitter etc and constant contact w millions of people like it is today. Everyone.. Even non boxing fans knew who ali was. Everyone knew who Tyson was. Tysons ppv rates were higher than current ufc ones. 69.99 for standard def w a 30 second fight for mike. Tyson was and is huge over seas.. Ali was world wide famous as well. Its a pretty big distance between ali and conor.. And i would bet even today more non mma or boxing fans would know who ali is ad opposed to conor. Conors only national / world news coverage was throwing a dolly at a bus.

I agree to an extent, but let's be honest Not even Rousey garnered as much attention from the general public.

I think mcgregor is hugely over rated and he's a complete cock. But in terms of recognition and exposure he puts all of the fighters you mentioned to shame. It's a totally different thing.

Nobody did the shit ali did...most don't know the type of shit he did to get under fighters skins...when he was about to fight Sonny Liston, he went to a casino that sonny was gambling at...ali went in there was hounding sonny something fierce...sonny actually took out a gun...I forget if he shot it or not, but he did pull one out...he made sonny believe he was a lunatic...cause he was...put on a great act...
