Dana White comment of Weidman: First guy to love being American

I was born in America but I can see why people can be a shame of it. Lots of Americans think they are the center of attention. The ignorance is out of control lately.

I dont need to be proud of other people's accomplishments, I do fine being proud of my own. nationalism is for people that have to feel successful by grouping themselves in with actual successful people.

A reminder; Brian Johnston was wearing the short Rex Kwon Do style in the early UFC fights

And Don Frye beat him and took his shorts:

translation-"I'm going to promote the shit out of this gimmick!"

Humans work better as a group nationalism lets people sacrifice things for the good of the country which allows a country to prosper.

If you are all about the individual you get Africa, where every man is for himself.

Interesting point.

Anyone notice that comment during the post-fight conference?

Article:

It seems like a common thread now, where many are becoming ashamed at being an American, especially when they visit other countries. White's comment hit home with me on that level, because there's very few American fighters that seem to talk like their Brazilian counterparts, e.g., "I want to bring the belt back to Brazil."

So, discuss:

Are you proud to be American?
Are you dissatisfied with being American? Have you moved countries?
Have you immigrated to America and feel patriotic?
Anything else you can pull out of this?

Hi there, brand new guy on your first account.

I am not "proud" of something I had nothing to do with. I was born in the US, just like I was born with brown hair. Being proud of something like that would be blatant nationalism, which I think is a very bad thing.

I am not proud of my government, they are doing lots of horrible things all over the world, at an increasing pace. I moved away from the US because the economy fell apart, mainly, although I was happy to not be paying US taxes any more. I can't stop what the US gov't does, but I can stop paying for it with my money.

"Patriotism" means nationalism, which is a pathological belief that one's country is better than another country solely because, well, it's where you happen to live.

I can understand being happy about being in the US, but not when it gets to the point of thinking we are better than anyone else. 'Cause we aint...

Its not every man for himself, but bragging about the accomplishments of others is just sad. Most Americans havent fought in a world war, invented things, etc, but they still brag about how the country did, because they have no real accomplishments of their own.

Nationalism is a refuge for losers to try and feel like they are a part of something useful. Most are not, they just live near people who are.

My parents are immigrants, they're very proud to be here. I'm proud to be an American. My wife always knew she would come to live here, not stay in India. Having seen the underside of 3rd world nations, we take pride in the U.S. system. We know it's not perfect but we have some knowledge on how much worse it could be.

That doesn't mean others can't take pride in where they live, they should. If they don't, they should move somewhere else.

Well you will never make the edgy and cool kid crowd with an attitude like that.

How retarded. Nice way to stereothype peoples.

I guess you don't like Cain's tattoo very much then, huh?

I'm proud to be American. Beats the hell out of having to be some minority in Russia still. If my grandparents didn't immigrate, I might be getting stomped by some white supremacists in St. Petersburg.

Most people around the world I have met who are not immigrants are period of their nation. It's Damn near universal.
