News Dana responds to Spencer Fisher: “It’s part of the gig.”

He's just saying that it's something that happens in the sport. Everyone is glossing over the part where he says that it is something they are aware of and have invested in research.

Even the fact that, after retiring, the UFC offered Fisher job where he does not do anything and made $5000 a month. It was the new ownership that put an end to that, not Dana.

There was nothing wrong with what Dana said and you guys are just looking for something to cry about.

What's he supposed to say? Obviously, he feels bad but he's saying that it is something every one knows happens and they have research into it.
That $5000 a month was to keep him from going public with the injury. That was hush money. Very similar to what the NFL did when they covered up brain injury studies to not hurt football’s popularity. That is wrong and a very valid reason to be upset. Covering up this information means future prospective athletes won’t have a full view on what could potentially happen to them. So how is it “part of the gig” if fighters aren’t made to be aware of it because he’s paying someone to not talk about it? STFU

That’s just your opinion. No real facts or evidence. Good thing you don’t work as a journalist, but if you wanted to I’m sure you could get a job as one.

Its true it's part of the game. Why is everyone acting so surprised now? Y'all never seen Mohammed Ali?
Or Freddie Roach? We all know what the effects of long-term prizefighting will do to you. I look for Chuck, Wandy, Overeem, Arlovski and anyone else who was either iron-chinned and/or KO'd many times to be very similar. It's sad, sure, but it's a part of the game.

Hush money? Where are you getting that from?

TBI isn’t a secret. Everyone who fights knows the risks.

There isn’t anything to cover up.

“He’s not the first and he’s definitely not the last.”

He's not wrong and if you are mad at Dana you are an idiot. We've all seen how Muhammed Ali looks these days. We've all seen/heard of boxers dying in the ring. All these fighters come in knowing the risks. Sounds like the UFC was supporting him for quite some time. It sucks. Nobody likes to see it. That's why I'm always happy when guys make their money and decide to call it good a la GSP and Khabib. That's the game man, it's the fight business. Many of these guys will live with horrible knee, back, etc injuries as well even if they don't get any brain damage. That's the gig man. Same with football and hockey. This is a combat sport.

Dana White is the devil.

Dana isn´t wrong here. Taking damage to the head for a living comes with a price.

Even if you make millions of dollars doing it, is it worth it?

Brutal honesty. NFL owners would say the same thing, especially after the league itself knew of concussion related trauma years ago and tried to suppress it.

I don't know what Dana's moral responsibility is here, ask 20 people and you'll get 20 different answers.

He's not wrong. Fighters should probably be paid more, though, if they may be potentially giving up their quality of life for the last third.

Damn, Dana grew tits and got even more red. As for his response, he would get dirt on him saying anything different.

It's not Dana or the UFC's fault. It's ours.

We are the ones that enjoy watching them get brain damage so much, but care so little about them that we tolerate, and still support the organizations leaving them in the lurch.

I think some of the onus of Spencers problems could be put on the training style at MFS. Back in the day at gyms like MFS, Chute Boxe, Lion's Den, and Golden Glory it was literally kill or be killed gym wars. That hard sparring meathead style of training is pretty much gone, which is obviously for the best. Sure he took damage in his actual UFC fights but I'd argue the majority of damage was done getting his head contiuously bashed in day after day over the course of 10+ years during sparring.

Guys like Robbie Lawler trained that way for years at MFS and eventually stopped sparring altogether when he left to train in Florida....pretty sure he saw the writing on the wall.
