I don’t totally get it. Naturally he wants the rematch before Khabib retires (and maybe it’s as simple as that). But every fight is a fork in the road, and if he loses to Khabib it’s really gonna take the steam out of his comeback. Why not take another easier matchup and really get the momentum going? Just seems a bit all-or-nothing unnecessarily soon. Sure, 170 is available to him, and I’m sure if he loses he’ll say he didn’t feel as powerful at 155 and blah blah. But this seems like a great time to line up a fight with someone like Poirier for April or May.

I think the point is more that if Tony wins, it will be Conor vs Tony and not Conor vs Khabib. They are talking as though Khabib already beat Tony.

Guy wins 12 in a row and finishes 9 of them (half vs top 10 guys) and he's looked at as nothing but a speed bump. It's ridiculous. You can favor Khabib, no issue with that. He's the betting favorite. But acting like the outcome is a foregone conclusion is insanity. Tony has shown that you'd better never count him out against anyone at 170 or below.
