Media Dana: 'GSP didn't want that fight (vs. Anderson) when they were both champs'

Wow, a whole 14 likes? You dismiss the sherdog goat poll numbers because it doesn't serve your bias agenda but 14 likes is enough for you to prove some kind of point?
18 and counting now

Wasnt it gonna be booked when GSP was in Abu Dhabi and Anderson put up that horrible Maia performance?

Bones was saying hed fight in HW since 2013 when Cain was champ lmao

Anderson ducked Shogun after he KOd Lyoto. Didnt want Hashad/Shogun/Lyoto/Bones.

Truth is a fighter moving up and taking the belt is rare and almost always only happens when weak upset champs take the title

No one considered Bisping, Eddie, Jan etc. the best fighter at their weight even tho they held the title. DC KOing Stipe and Manda KOing Cyborg were the only real exceptions in recent history and Daniel was already a HW before he ever drained himself. Before that BJ finishing Hughes.

I saw an interview with GSP, for Canal Combate here in Brazil, that he said that the one time he got offered the Anderson fight was after his fight with Hendricks, but he was retired due to his mental health issues, depression and all so he didn't want to take it. Said that the fight never happening was just a bad timing.

I mean this was pretty obvious the second GSP ran up to fight an extremely weak middleweight champ in Bisping

Silva, GSP, Jones had 10+ championship fight, never failed weigh-ins.
KHabib had 4 championship fight, failed weigh-ins devouring tiramisu, and cheated weight at vs Justin.

100%.

My dislike for Khabib started when he missed weight against Trujillo.

The Justin weigh-in was #2 bullshit.

GOAT cheat move.

Silva fans are the biggest hypocrites on here. And that's really saying something.

<puh-lease75>

he was tko'd by a top 10 fighter when he was 45 years old. gsp has had 1 fight since he turned 33.

these pissing contests are absurd. tear down every great fighter.

Anderson was great, GSP was greater. GSP is smarter to walk away on top. It’s like leaving the casino or card house when you’re up, vs staying and losing all your money back and then trying to justify it by talking about how well you were doing while you were on top. Sometimes knowing when to quit is GOAT in itself, ala Beeby and CCC. Hopefully Jones, DJ and Nunes can figure that out too.

Anderson and Fedor were almost there, and then they turned into BJ P’s. Sad when athletes don’t know when to optimize their legacy. That in itself is yet another level to this game.

-Top 5 all time fighter though. Although, Roy Jones would are his cookies had he tried to box him. Props to him for wanting that fight tho.

Horrible Maia performance?
The Maia fight was an extreme dominant performance of Silva... pls rewatch

This wasn’t one Dana’s behind the scenes negotiation tricks

GPS absolutely didn’t wanna fight Silva

This thread epitomizes why BJ Penn is such a legend. The guy was a real featherweight, yet won the title at 170, and had competitive fights with GSP — lol the first matchup —, Fitch, and Machida.
Also, if Adasanya beats Jan and Jones, he will easily move ahead of Khabib in the all-time rankings.

getting out too late is obviously never fun to see and it's the worst for combat athletes. but i think you have to acknowledge it's the competitive nature of these guys that makes it hard for them to step away. michael jordan coming out of retirement doesn't end up unconscious on the floor when he's no longer the best in the world. tom brady can be the 10th best qb in the world and he's still a success. silva can be competitive with top 10 fighters and still end up a bloody mess hugging a ref's leg.

ali fought too long. joe louis fought too long. tyson fought too long. ezzard charles fought too long, roy is fighting way too long. the list is long. some of the greatest ever. the fact that floyd, lennox, rocky, klitschko, calzaghe all walked away before ending up like louis, ali, duran, charles, doesn't make them greater.

personally, while i hate seeing silva or fedor on the floor, i also feel like we miss out when top athletes retire when they still obviously have alot more to give. i don't see protecting a legacy as somehow more honorable than fighting on. they all make individual choices for their own reasons. silva is fighting on 13 years beyond where gsp and khabib's walked away. i respect them walking away, i do, but as a fan i feel like i'm missing out on some good years as well. it's entirely selfish.

Dana desperately trying to keep Anderson relevant with this old age story is sad.

How Anderson wishes he could have shared the cage with a GOAT like GSP

Around the 9min mark.

Pretty much sums up what we all know.

- GSP never wanted to fight Anderson.
- Anderson never wanted to fight Jones.

Would have been awesome, but can we even blame them? Three of the GOATs and big size difference between them.

No shit. Canelo would not want to face Tyson Fury.

Why would he? Anderson is too big for him, a natural light heavyweight and was a steroid user. The welterweight division wasn’t weak so there was no point in fighting him. GSP would have still beaten him though.

BJ Penn is more of a cautionary tale than a legend at this point
